View Full Version : Raising the gear on the Ultra Sport?

Anyone know how to get the landing gear to retract on the UltraSport after it's in the air?
The a/c description says the gear switch is the upper right switch.
It didn't do anything, so I went into the a/c details and gave the gear servos and movement values. Now I can flip the switch while sitting on the runway idling, and the mains retract. The nose doesn't, but no biggie, because I'm not really wanting to retract on the runway. because.....
When I take off and flip the switch, nothing happens with the gear. I'm not smart enough to figure out how to make them work anywhere other than on the ground.
Anyone??? What am I missing? tia

You should make sure that the throttle inputs have nothing to do with the retracts...ex. it could be setup to where the retract switch only works at idle, which will cause the gear to not work in the air but work on the ground, you can test this by throttling back to idle and flipping the switch...good luck, maybe you can upload the .plng3 file so that someone can set it up for you, i'll do it if no one gets to it before me.

It works fine here. Are you sure you were using the stock (unedited) Ultrasport when you tried it the first time?

Ryan,
Thanks for the interest.
I've got an absolutely clean, brand new install since yesterday. I've not attempted to plug anything into it, and haven't even attempted to update it's version. It's pristine.
The UltraSport description says it's got retracts on the upper right switch and nothing happens on the runway or in the air.
When I go into the "edit the Ultra Sport", the a/c settings are what were installed from the cd. And I've not touched them since the new install. And if I had, I'd have had to give a name to the "altered" a/c and would still see the original settings for the original, right? Well about the original......
When I "edit the Ultra Sport" and look at the settings for the nose gear, where there is an option for the "Retract servo" the setting I got with this new install's original Ultra Sport is "No servo". That's the same setting I found the other day when I installed G3 the first time. The settings for Down and Up axis show zero degree down and -90 degree up. The Main gear shows No servo, but it's Down and Up axis are both 0 degrees.
When I attempted to fix the gear the other day (with the install prior to the current one), I put a retract servo on both mains and the nose, and gave the mains an up value. That was when the mains would work on the runway, the nose wouldn't, and neither would work after takeoff.
Today, I just now went into G3 and selected the Ultra Sport. There isn't another one to select and I've not touched the settings. They're exactly what I described above.
And the switch does nothing. Sitting or flying, the Ultra Sport gear is fixed.
If your install works, then I'd guess that my cd has different data on it than yours and installed a stock Ultra Sport without retracts. The G3 version that installed off this cd seems to be 3.00.366.
BTW, I have no problem setting the values if someone would tell me what needs to be switched. Seems to me that the only settings that mattered would be the servo and up and down values.
Thank you both for your interest and help, btw.

Attached is the edited Ultrasport with the retracts working!
The only change was to add the "retract servo' to both the main and steering gear.

Thanks Don. But let me ask you a question or two. Did your stock Ultra Sport have retract servos? and did you see if adding the servos actually allowed the gear to retract when the a/c was flying?
There is a puzzle here, and it's still a puzzle.
The a/c still won't retract it's gear in flight. My version of G3 has a stock Ultra Sport without retract servos. As it came stock, the retract switch won't retract the gear anywhere, in the edit screen (when you're editing the gear), on the runway, or in the air. If I edit in the retract servos, then the switch retracts the gear in the edit screen display and when the a/c is sitting on the runway. But it won't retract them in the air.
By the way, I've now looked very closely, and when the gear "retracts" on the runway (after editing retract servos into the a/c), the gear actually just sinks into the runway. Actually, only the mains sink, the nose gear never moves no matter what and doesn't sink.
I'm guessing that whatever code is entered that is to portray the gear moving up into the a/c when the switch is thrown when you're at the flying field, isn't getting entered when the mainline code is running your flying session.
I think this issue is going to take more than just giving the Ultra Sport retract servos.
BTW, it does appear that while flying the a/c, flipping the retract switch does result in the a/c bobbling some, as if the gear going up or down causes a pitch reaction, even if the picture of the gear never changes..... and this really isn't a huge deal anyway.
Thanks for your suggestions anyway.
My Ultra Sport in the stock G3 has working retracts. I just forget to use them sometimes......... :p

With all the talk about the latest version (.410) lately, I incorrectly assumed that's the version you were using. I looked into it, and it turns out the Ultra Sport's retracts did not work in .366. We fixed that in .410.

Thanks Ryan,
I figured it had to be something amiss in my version.
Now, my only problem is getting that new version. My attempt at updating .366 to "the latest version" (think it was .387) went really bad. I'm on dialup and in spite of having a 52k connection at the time, the download was interrupted a couple of times and in spite of the promise that that shouldn't hurt, it appears that it actually gave me a corrupt RFV3UP.ADJ file. Hope you guys figure out a way to provide update cd's........
Thanks for the answer.

I have version 4.10 and none of the planes with retracts work in the air. Only on the ground do they go up. I have not edited anything so the setups for these aircraft are the original from the initial installation.

I have .410, and all the planes with retracts work in the air, and on the ground.

I just updated my monitor and video drivers as well as re-installed the .410 upgrade and still no change. They work on the ground but do not show in the up position while in the air. If you land you crash because it thinks they are up.
If you re-set and the retracts are up, you get the message they are up and to flip the switch to lower them and re-start.
I also noticed that the Binocular view does not show them up at all, either on the ground or in the air. I may try pulling G3 off all together and start over from scratch, unless someone has a solution.

I fixed it. Everything works just fine.
I had to delete G3 from my pc, then install it again. Then re-install Add-Ons 1 through 5. I checked to see if the retracts were working properly, in the air as well as on the ground, and they were. After that I went right to the latest version upgrade for version .410.
The retracts go up and down on all of my planes after the upgrade, in the air as well as on the ground. It also shows the same thing in the Binocular view.
A little painful but worth it. I had to do the XP fix, listed in another thread on this site, in order to install the Add-Ons disk.
