View Full Version : Got my 3DS Model, now what?

Hello, I made a zagi-type model for G3 using 3D Studio, but get errors when trying to export to a .KEX
It says something about the bitmaps, and then another window that says "Export module failure"
Could i send the file to someone that can export it for me? then send the file back?

I think the problem you are having is that the bitmaps you are using are not properly sized so that the exporter can use them.What you need is one .tga file for your colourscheme that is a power of two i.e 128x128,256x256,512x512,1024x1024 or 2048x2048 pixels and that will sort your problem out and then you should be able to export it .This may mean that you need to retexture your model before you export it .

It would help a bunch if you would provide the actual error message that you are getting. Without that, it is difficult to know exactly what the problem is, much less provide a working solution.
When you run the 3ds2kex tool it is best to run it from a command prompt. That will allow you to see and copy the output. You can also supply additional command line parameters to get more verbose output.

is it possible to export without a texture? i'd just like to get a flying model first, should i make a solid color texture say 512x512 and try that?
And the only error message i get says "Export Module Failure" that's it.
Also, to run that 3ds2kex thing, i click to open, and it shuts itself almost immediately, does 3dStudio need to be open for it to stay open?

After playing around, i am using the .TGA file now, just a white one, 512x512, and it works.....
BUT
my poly limit is over..... which surprises me, it says the limit is 1200, and i have around 5700. and it's not even that complex of a model, just a zagi.
any help?

I think that 1200 limit is for collision meshes (~CS_COLL) if you dont have any it looks at the whole model hence the warning. The limit on polys is 20,000.
