I was looking at the 3DS > KEX data zip file and I saw a note about future software? It is possible to support a format like FBX, or .X to KEX. I understand why you would want your own formate, but 3DS seems to be a binary formate, so its hard to write a exporter for other 3D applications.
As ASCI format would be so much easier to debug...
