okay first dont flame me if this is a repost of something someone already asked 87 pages down.

i read multiple threads on what to do to make color schemes, i downloaded gimp, saved the scheme opened in gimp did a couple test designs , saved it as yak54~colorscheme.tga

and when i open it, all i get is a silvery plane with plaid lines going through it.

also my add ons disc volume 1 wont work, i cant even get to the download process before it has an error, and i am also having trouble downloading other peoples color schemes and extra airplanes.

much help kthx

Not to flame, but it has been discussed....

Your best bet is to export an existing scheme, using the name that you want for the new theme.

e.g. "My New Yak-54 Scheme".

Then go to the C:\Program Files\RealflightG3\Colorscheme directory and there will be two new files there...

e.g.

My New Yak-54 Scheme.tga
My New Yak-54 Scheme.colorscheme

Edit the My New Yak-54 Scheme.tga file with Gimp or any other editor.

Be sure that you save the file in exactly the SAME format as the original (file info will clue you in...). Image size ratios and bit depth are very important, so use the original format.

When working with programs that support layers, you must "flatten visible" and not "flatten all" layers or else you'll loose transparancy.

Once done, just go back into G3 and load up your edited colorscheme...

Done!

ive done all of that and it still wont work correctly, i also discovered if i change say, the size of the wings on a certain plane it still appears the same size

Make sure you are saving the image as an uncompressed tga. If it is compressed it will screw up the image conversion code.

The image is scaled to the model.

(Painting does not equate to modeling the plane btw.)

If you do the above it works UNLESS you are changing the format, aspect and/or bit ratios.... and as Vitek says, the compression.

You must save the file in exactly the same manner as the original.

You say that "it still appears as the same size"...

That means that it's working for you, since you are viewing the edited image itself.

no no , the same size thing was about when i edit a plane right in g3, nothing changes when i do it but it flys differently, and as for the help thanks i got it now it was because i had it compressed

You can "scale" the plane in the physics editor... but you cannot change anything that affects the visual representation of the plane except the props and smoke.

The editor basically deals with the physics of the plane.

The visual scaling factor does permit you to make the plane visually larger or smaller.
