Hello.

Just installed Real Flight 3.5 on my upgraded Dell Dimension 2400 using a password protected admin user.

The simulation work really well and I'm very impressed. However when I use my Son's login (no admin rights) I get the following error code upon initial software loadup.

KEError 95020:Critical File Write Error.

Selecting OK closes the Dialog box and the software continues to load ok with the exception that the dialogue in the bottom left hand of the screen prompts for controller calibration.

Otherwise the software appears to run OK.

Any thoughts on what the error code is about ?

Many thanks in advance, Soarman

G3 requires full administrative rights tot he system to run.

The error is correct. G3 does not have the rights it needs to operate.

I'm no IT expert but needing Admin rights to run G3 with an Internet enabled machine and virus checking etc switched off (as recommend) does not seem very secure.

Another concern is that I'm not sure I really want my children using admin rights just to run G3.

I'll admit to not having read much documentation but is the admin requirement mentioned in the docmentation ?

See this. (http://www.realflight.com/requirements/g3_system.html) It seems to me that the box says the same thing, but I threw my packaging away. And if I'm not mistaken, admin rights is only given to G3, not everything that is running on your computer. Right click on the G3 shortcut, select properties. Under compatability, check the 'run as admin' option. From a web page on this site ==> "You MUST use an account with administrator privileges! This was a requirement for Windows 2000 and XP and it still holds true for Vista. "

It makes no difference.

Admin rights only affect the installation of other software on the system and the ability to read registry entries and folders created by other users. The latter can still be turned on and off.

Most viruses and worms bypass all of this anyway.

As noted you can also permit G3 to run as "administrator" limiting the login account to the current set of rights, but you will have to adjust both the G3 launcher and executable to run with admin privs.

Other than drive-by downloads ( something you can turn off in the browser ) the only drawback would be that they would be able to install other software on the system...

Yes, it's always been a requirement.

G3 "talks" directly to the USB bus interface to deal with copy protection and to optimize video performance.

A lot of game programs, particularly those that do heavy 3D and multiplayer, have similiar requirements.

I read the earlier posts and have given RealFlight G3 full administrative rights. I have re-installed G3 after fixing my PC and am not sure if that could be the cause. I would appreciate if somebody could help. Thank you.
