Will pilots using G3.5 be able to fly with\against those using G4? Must a 3.5 flying field be employed when they do (if they can)?

After 3.5 there was only a short time until with 3.0 you couldnŽt find any sessions anymore. I think weŽll have the same procedure now but not so fast. 200€ is a bit more than nothing...

Yes, I'm hoping G3.5 and G4 can exist in the same multiplayer session, as I want to give my G3.5 to a friend, and then be able to fly online with him.

I'm going to say that this will most likely not happen. You have to remember different game engine and probably different network code in the product. Usually seperate version will be non-compatiable with each other, this even happens between version updates as well.

Sorry but my money is on a sound no, not going to happen.

Would it be possible to get a definitive answer on this one, there are a lot of people that use the multi player, so to upgrade and lose your flying mates, because some people wont upgrade or cant afford too etc :(

You cannot mix G2 & G3 MP. I don't see where you'll be able to mix G3 & G4

In some cases that could be welcome! ;)

Lets see. Who's less likely to update due to cost?

- A rich kid with too much time on their hands that wouldn't know the meaning of real money if it bit them on the butt

- An older bloke, who is a nice guy but has limited funds to support his hobby because there are more important things like a family to support.

A cost barrier is not a good thing.

In order for cross compatibility I would assume multiplayer would have to be locked to certain fields.
Imagine G4 guys flying on water and the G3.5 crown trying to join that room. ;)

I'm sorry Sammy thats not quite what I was getting at. It was a poor attempt at humor in which I meant that some of the people in multiplayer I could do with out.
Like the smokers and the people that hover on the centerline for 10 min at a time.
I too believe in family first extras last!!! ;)

Even while understanding there are technical hurdles to making the multiplayer sessions work across versions, I still find the incompatibilities to be a sore point about the software. In the small world of helicopters that I'm involved in, multiplayer is the one "place" I see where pilots of different brands actually carry on a good chat with each other. But, in the end, the community gets re-fragmented (so typical of the hobby, btw) by impersonal and untimely software updates.

Furthermore, I live in a two pilot household and require two simulators. At first, I bought two copies of Realflight, then one of G2, then G3 and recently, G4. I've had to buy two computers especially to run these Generation power hogs; the latest being this past week. And with this now sizable investment in simulators, we still can't fly together at home on the same flying field. To do that, I would have to buy yet another computer and another copy of G4. Yeah, right. It's more than a little bit disappointing.
