View Full Version : Sailplane Support

Hi everybody!

I've read in the jbourke's post that the sailplane support is the following:
- Better sailplane support, including a variometer, better thermal support, and dynamic soaring.

That's fine but how about:
- glider towing with a powered plane
- Winch towing
These are quite important features for who (like me  ) perform lots of sailing.

In addition, in the plane's list there aren't new gliders! How about some scale gliders like ASG-29, Discus, Nimbus, Ventus or similar?

Thank you so much!

Give me a G3 Airport you want edited and I will make it so your plane will be either

1/ Launched in a way that would simulate a Short Bungee.
2/ Launched at Altitude (how high would you like it to be launched at).

Or. give me a Plane you like to fly and I will make it so your Plane will be Either.

1/ Powered so it can get itself up to altitude (without Ballast or balance problems)
2/ Powered so it can Get itself up to altitude (in a way that would simulate a powered glider)

Bryce :)

G4 ? Lets wait and See. No doubt the same work around will work with G4, but as for a specific launch style you mentioned, well it is Kind of difficult, but could be Done.
When I get G4. I will let you know :) (PS. I use the Above methods to good effect. so much so that I feel the Need for a powered tow or Long Bungee launch is not needed. (In the end. all you really want is to get her up there.

You all know that I'm a huge G.3.5 fan but I also think that a hi-start is a pretty big feature! Other sims do offer this. While i do most of my glider flying from cliffs or mountains it does not really mean that much to me. It would be nice though for people that live in flat lands. Just getting up there is not the same as a hi-start, they take practice also. Try going to a field by yourself and launching, especially with a glider with no Dihedral and Ailerons.

My DG-800A don't need such things. It has an integrated, retractable motor system :)

Looks Good.

Found a way to get the prop to fold ?

Only changed in the aircraft editor the Propeller Type to "Folding". Thats all.

Great plane but, still has nothing to do with a hi-start? It is a great plane that i would love to fly. There are guy's out there that would like a bungy or hi-start!

Perhaps a feature, which will be included in an update of G4 :) -> Any KE personal reading this? -> Feature request :D

A bungy between to aircraft (one strongly powered, one sailplane) in multiplayer would be nice.

An hi-start well simulated should be an amazing update and could include also some competion categories like F3B or F3J.
In my opinion should be nice include glider towing with a powered plane even in single player mode not only in multiplayer. Who remember FlightUnlimited by LookingGlass Studios released in 1995?
In that simulator there was a powered towing simulation with a tow plane controlled by CPU. Shouldn't it a good idea? ;)

Woah! Your DG800A looks amazing! May you share it in Swap pages? :D

It's completely designed in Blender. The 3DS4KEX - script is still buggy. But rayvel is working on the script to fix it. While I have control over Ambient and Diffuse color....I miss control over specular and glossiness level. Probably I don't adjust the shaders and material settings in blender correctly. Adjusting materials in Blender is quite different from material settings in gmax/3dsmax. I've created the DG800-A mainly as prototype for aircrafts generated completely freeware with blender. There will also be a helicopter designed for test purposes, which will be probably more difficult to get through the .kex - exporter. So don't expect it will be on the swaps soon.

I'm still looking for a nice Colour - Scheme for the sailplane. If anybody want's a special design, feel free to post it or send me a PM.

Man I like that DG800-A, I hope you post it. I have flown the, RC not simulated, 7 meter ASH-25 and a 5.2 meter Nimbus-4DM; both have Self Launch; if you just download that DG to the site, I'd be very excited; but do these others, simulated to G3, I'd pass out with joy!!! :D  :p :)

I agree that RealFlight should have a winch launch mode. Sad it doesn't.

I believe it's called Discus Launch in the aircraft editor.

Some of us don't have G4.

You just got a new plane, maybe spend or save the money for G4 instead.
Santa is quite generous this time of year. :D
