This includes myself... lol. At least until now.
If anybody is still confused as to why the knob is in the spot where the throttle hold should be, it's not KE's fault. They don't build the radio. Great Planes (AKA Futaba) builds the radio. It's a 6EX with no screen and a USB cord instead of an antenna. You have two options with this radio. You either have no knob for flaps, or it's in the inconvenient location. Obviously, we can't go along without flaps on this sim so the only choice was to go for the radio that us heli guys would be angry with.

I took my radio apart, and it literally took me maybe 30 minutes to unsolder the circuit board (without a desoldering bulb I might add), relocate the switch to the top, and pop the knob in the bottom. A little bit of CA and 5 minutes of curing with accelerator put me in business. It works just fine, nothing is hacked together. It looks factory.

To be honest, I don't know why they couldn't have just done this from the factory, or let Futaba make a specific radio for KE to work with, but they didn't. If you're going to complain about the knob/throttle hold locations, please take it to Great Planes. They make the radio.

My low end radio (normally religated to being a buddy-box) is a 6EX and it's a pain in the rear in real life too.

Most inconvienient flap location of any radio I used. You have to either take your right hand off of the stick (definately not good) or reach completely across with your left (not particularly good either, as you no longer have much of a grip on the transmitter - thank God for neck straps, they were developed with this radio in mind).

Yah! That flap knob is useless in that location. Guess I'll have to hookup my Super-7, with the XPS module pulled to save battery!

Or just modify the interlink...maybe both.

You get really good at letting go of the right stick, dialin'-in some flaps, and grabbin' the stick again...

Yeah it's definitely annoying. But it's really not hard to fix.
Maybe we can talk Futaba into fixing their 6EX also?

I don't see a problem with it. I use the thumb on stick control method and the first finger to roll the flap knob. This configuration actually seems better to me. If you use your thumb and fore finger on the sticks I can see where it might be an issue.

Same here. Doesn't everyone hold a Tx with the thumb on the stick unless it's one of the Euro tray Tx's?

Nope! There are two main ways of holding the sticks, but there are some variations. Some use the "pinch" method, whereas others use the "thumb" method. A variation might be called "pinmb" or "thunch" method :p

I used to do thumbs, but after I got to where I was trying to fly stuff with some actual precision (especially helicopters), it really did not work with thumbs only. Pinching the sticks works MUCH better.
My gripe wasn't with flaps. I don't really even use flaps regardless of the plane I'm flying unless it's a turbine. And I don't like turbines, so I never mess with them. lol. My gripe was that I was developing a bad habit with the switch being in the wrong spot. Not wanting to use my 9C for all of my sim time, I switched the locations of the knob and switch. Everything is all better now.

Gotta give it to you for being both courageous and ingenious.
