Just curious why it is possible to download any and all the files on the swap pages while not being a member of the KE forums?

You have to be a member and "log in" to view any attachments in any threads and such......couldn't the swap pages be limited to members only? I'm trying to think of the other forums I visit.....usually you have to be a member for any "perks" like that otherwise they are restricted.

Edit: Just realized I really should have put this in the G3 - G3.5 area.......as technically there are no swaps for G4 yet. All the same readers will see it here anyways.

Thanks for pointing this out. The problem has been fixed.

A valid Serial number to be a member may be a good idea in the future.
Should help with those who have MPD.

I'm liking that idea phrank......sure would be an end to the MPD's. It would still work for current forum members.

To re-validate your membership you'd have to input your Serial Number from your purchased sim. The admins could set a "re-validate" your registration / screen name time frame........the ones that don't get re-validated are either MPD's or current members that are no longer active.

If you don't own the sim...and are just here to visit and learn about the product, the "guest" pass will still work, and suit your needs just fine......also now that Adam corrected the swaps download (for members only) this would rid of "some" problems in that area also.

I think a valid serial number to join the forum is a bad idea. What about people who want to read about the product before purchasing?

I just explained that in my above post.......you can still visit this site as a "guest" as is.....nothing would change with that. The only thing you wouldn't be able to do is "view attachments" and "download free models" on the swaps.

You would certainly have enough access to read all the necessary information to learn about the sim.

I would assume the only people that would "Bock" at this setup would be the MPD members!

I don't think one needs to own a product in order to participate in certain discussions

As in "Multiple Personality Disorder"?

Solution to that would be have the "guest" pass register and be valid for a short period of time (a week or two) this way if you had any questions you'd like answered......you could voice them then. The guest pass would still restrict you from downloading off the swaps.

As this is where a main problem stems from on the swaps....right now a member can have several screen names....download a model with one that you don't use often (leave a nasty rating on purpose) and who cares if that screen name gets banned This would solve that.

That's what I got out of it.

As in "Multiple Personality Disorder"?

Yes. ;)

But on the other side of the argument, there are legitimate reasons for multiple accounts in a household: Parent and their children, or siblings.

I doubt KE would take such drastic measures though.
