Why would you want it in windowed mode? Everything works better that way. The graphics are better and the framerates are faster.
There's really no way to make it as good in windowed mode as in fullscreen. You can use Alt+Tab to get it out of G4 if you need to do other things while the program is running.
That's a nice piece of hardware you have there too. The sim should run pretty well!
What on earth is a treacle anyway?

i didnt read your whole post , but i noticed that when i run it in a (maximized) window, my performance was better, when i went to full screen mode, my frame rate took a hit, and over all performance decrease, i dont know why or how. but it did. i fly in window mode all the time. cause i like to switch back and forth from flying and browsing KE forums :D

I prefer to use the sim in windowed mode also (and I have the same problem as he does.....but only on photofields)

The reason I don't like to run full screen.....because I'm usually working back and forth on my models....so I have to Alt Tab all the time, and it takes a while for the screens to change. This makes for an annoying time....so I've just made sure I'm always on a 3D field when setting up models. (As I can go back and forth between the sim, 3ds, and photoshop for my CS's dozens and dozens of time to work on all the small details.

So that in a nutshell is why someone might want it in windowed mode.

Interesting. I get more FPS in full screen mode than window mode. I thought the reason for that was because in window mode it has to 'print' more graphic info on the screen. IE, the bar across the top with all the words seem to take more frame rate than just filling in the screen with the sim graphic.

I have now install the sim on my other computer (laptop Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1526)
on that machine I don't have same problem the sim is working whit good graphics speed in both mode. The graphics card on the laptop is Envida 7600 and on
my other pc is ATI 98xx something don't remember exactly still have slow performance in windows mode but good performance in full mode.

So it feels more like s hardware related problem

Best Regards and a merry Christmas & Happy new year

Not only that, but in Windowed mode the Gui has to deal with things like checking for potential changes to the desktop being executed or modified by services and other background tasks. This eats up CPU cycles.

In full screen mode, it doesn't have to redraw the desktop screen until it flips back out of full screen mode.

What on earth is a treacle anyway? In some parts of the world (the US for example) treacle is known as molasses. :)
