View Full Version : The Blender only approach

I see the new script is out which allows conversion from 3DS to KEX and only having to have used Blender to make the setup.

I have searched through every sticky, I've used the search function in the upper right, I've gone all through KE forums and cant find a thread that gives any detail on how to use just Blender to create an airplane.

I'm not looking for anything that goes into great detail. A simple thread that just tells you how to create an object, maybe two and get it into real flight would be great. Seriously, I've looked around and cant find a single thread that actually tells how to do that.

Anything like that out there? Or would anyone be willing to work on one? Like I said, it doesnt have to go into a great amount of detail, just something really simple would be awesome and I could build off of it.

EDIT - Just to reiterate, I'm not looking for someone to hold my hand and teach me Blender, I'm willing to learn it on my own. However, at this point I'm stuck somewhere in the mechanics of getting my file from Blender to G4. My latest error is being told that the file I'm trying to convert (using the 3ds2kex converter) has no nodes. I'm not sure how to get past that, but I'm sure if I had a simple tutorial from someone on how exactly to get a sphere imported into RF then I could work off it and figure out the more complicated things as I get more comfortable with Blender.

Just bumping this back up to the top to make sure...

Is there ANYONE out there who uses only Blender and the 3ds2kex script to go from start to finish in designing a plane for G4?

I'd really like to go that route and I've spent a good week or two learning Blender through tutorials, but I'm having an impossible time actually finding anyone who knows the Blender aspect of design enough to show me how to do some aspects.

If there is no one who can help me, I guess I'll have to go back to that thread maxkop made about how to do it with several other programs and learn that way, seems a shame to do though since I would imagine making the entire plane in one program would be the simpler route.

When the Grumman G-44 is finished I probably will make a video tutorial about this whole Blender/3ds2kex thing. Perhaps sometimes it is better watching a 20 min video than reading through 20 pages of text. The observer can simply rewind if something is going on to fast for him in the tutorial and making click by click the same procedures as the guy who's trying to tell something.

Greets,

Max

I, for one, would REALLY appreciate that.

I'm sure I've got a lot to learn in Blender still, but I do believe I have a grasp on the basics and can make a "decent" 3d model. However, I cant convert it over to G4 correctly so I'm getting frustrated.

I'd be happy at this point with a small tutorial just showing how to import a simple sphere into G4 using only Blender and I can expand off that, or maybe a sphere and a cube so that I can be sure I'll be able to import multiple objects correctly.

But regardless, the 20 minute video sounds great as well.

Maxkop -

Just so you don't think Recty is the only one that would appreciate a video - count me in. I'm stumbling along with a couple of downloaded tutorials and my "Essential Blender" book, but seeing how it's done from someone making the same type of model would be a great help.

Yes, me also! I'd even Pay for a good tutorial on DVD or a big file download?

Whatever, I am interested. :)

I printed out about 600 pages worth of stuff I stuck into a 3 ring binder and have been going through it at night.

Definitely some very worthwhile information in that wikibook, I've learned a lot from it and a couple of good video tutorials as well.

With that said, none of it helps with getting my basic model into G4 correctly, so I'm definitely looking forward to a little help from someone with experience in it :)
