View Full Version : When did RealFlight go up in price?
I was just visiting Tower to fulfill some "needs" when I noticed that RealFlight G4 is now selling for $219.99. I thought it was only $199.99.
When did they raise the price? Oh, sure Tower will give you a $20.00 "gift certificate". But, I thought the price of the program (including "elite" controller) was supposed to be $199.99 or was that just a reduced price for the "early birds"?

Maybe their not getting enough sales, we have alot of people that still aren't convinced to buy G4, i can see why.

I know Hobby_Lobby up'ed the prices on the alpha models due the the rising costs of getting them shipped to the wharehouse. Maybe Tower is having the same problem.

It's called a weak US economy.
Our dollar is devaluing compared to the rest of the world. Stuff is going to be getting more expensive. Get used to it.

I agree that the price is very steep. I got the $20 plus a $25 discount off the $199 price at Tower, or I wouldn't have bought it. Which is a shame, because it really helped me. It seemed silly though at the time to buy a $200 simulator to help me fly my $150 Axe CP.
By the way. I know Heli-Max, Great Planes, RealFlight, etc. are all the same company, but they seem to be in pretty close with Tower Hobbies. Is Tower Hobbies owned by them as well?

Yes, Tower Hobbies is part of the Hobbico empire, along with OS engines, Futaba, the ones you named, and others.

Almost...
Tower Hobbies is the online hobby shop for Great Planes Model Distributors, which is the proprietary distributor of Futaba, OS, Duratrax, Electrifly, Great Planes, etc...
Hobbico owns a lot of those companies, but OS and Futaba for sure are based overseas and Great Planes is just the importer, where Tower is the public storefront.

It's nuts then how the HeliMax MX450 keeps bouncing back and forth between "In Stock" and "Discontinued" on the Tower Hobbies web page. I'm afraid to order one for fear of getting parts.
Its a real shame because I really like how Tower Hobbies operates, but if HeliMax isn't going to consistently produce a higher grade electric heli than the Axe CP, I wish they'd let Tower Hobbies stock TREX or even the Blade 400.

Thanks for the clerification. But, I thought that Hobbico owned Great Planes. Seems to me that I'd just read where Don Anderson (president and founder of Great Planes) had been given a position with Hobbico.

I was willing to pay $199 for my G4 simply because I knew that if I didn't learn how to handle airplanes with the sim, I would probably bust up MANY $150 dollar airplanes in the process of becoming something more than a rank amateur !
I have handled planes in the simulator that I will not be financially able to even attempt to fly in the near, and possibly far future, but it sure is a kick to be able to get some idea of how they must be to fly !
That $150 Axe CP is just a Beginning, and you should be able to go back to the simulator over and over again, just to keep your thumbs "educated" !
Don't knock it !
Cheers! Jim S.

May not just be software costs going up.
The guy at my LHS said a lot of R/C hardware prices will be going up too, due to rise in transportation costs.

This is obviously a vast conspiracy with ties to some of the world's largest corporations such as Knife Edge Software!

Not this again... :(
First it was OPEC and the Oil Companies - now it's GreatPlanes and RealFlight ... is nothing sacred anymore?
At least house prices are down.

Purchased any Glow fuel recently?
40.00+/Gallon USD for 35% Nitro Heli fuel!!!
OUCH!
I went onto to Tower Hobbies site this morning and noticed that their price for G4 is back to $199.98. (There Expansion Packs are still at $32.99)
Is this normal for Tower to raise their price for an item by 10% and then a week or so later lower it back down?

For yucks I was about to purchase a miglet from Tower, then I saw the XPD-8 ( which is the same plane in a different color ) was 15.00 cheaper.
Old price 99.00 for the bare bones "kit"... new price 44.00 for the XPD-8.
Go figure.
