What are the differences between the expansion packs and the add ons? In other words why do you not get all the planes on the add ons.

Addons are free.

Expension packs are not.

Why not? because expension packs Pays for the bills between main .0 releases.

If you don't have the expansion pack 5, you don't have any planes from it. You may have another version that's from the swap pages, but not one of the original KnifeEdge models themselves.

However, you may have a plane or two from Add-Ons 5.

if you tell us which planes they are maybe we have an answer.
I still haven't figured out exactly what your question is.

:D :D :D :D :D

On the swap page you have Aircrafts and Variants (of Aircraft)

A variant is based on an Aircraft
There is a lot of Variants on the swap pages that are based on Aircrafts only available on the expension packs.

I agree. it is sad to buy the whole expension pack when you are just interrested in a single Aircraft in it...

An expension pack is still much cheaper then a real aircraft so hey... Enjoy all the extra's while you are getting your single Aircraft. ;)

Did not think that I was that hard to understand. I understand the variant part. when you go in to the aircraft page it says a Requirement (expansion pack 5 or something similar) some of the aircraft that I have downloaded on the swap pages say a plane requirement of such and such pack , I have downloaded the add ons, and the plane, and now have the plane. where others say expansion pack 1 or so, and then downloaded the plane and it won't work. their is not a constancy about it, so what I would like to know besides the name (expansion pack, add ons) what is the difference? why is their a version 1,2,3,4, and no 5 yet on the add ons, and expansion packs 1,2,3,4,5?
The Great planes Extra that is in Expansion pack 5, I have downloaded the plane on the swap pages and can get every variant that says it needs the requirements of Expansion pack 5. where the U-CAN-DO is in Expansion pack 1 and can not get it to work or find the plane anywhere on the swap pages, but have downloaded the add on 1.
hope this makes it as clear as mud.

Addon packs are free and were made for G2. Expansion packs are not free because they were made specifically for G3 and G4. You must first own the plane from either the addon or expansion pack to be able to use any variant of that plane.

Are any of the expansion packs unsuitable for 4.5?

I am picking up 5 soon and thought I might grab 4 also. I kind of assumed the early ones might not be so great for 4.5....

All 5 expansion packs are suitable with G4.5

Add-ons Discs are not, use the free downloads instead.

The add-ons were for previous generations before G4. KE/GP graciously made those add-ons (1-4) compatible (and this was a lot of work) for users of G4 and above, per many requests for users of newer generations of RealFlight. I don't know when and if add-on 5 will be included as the above 4.

Expansion Packs 1-5 are later software packs, packing much better graphics and eye-candy into them, as they aren't dinosaur packs. All I lack is #5. I've been satisfied with 1-4, so #5 is on my Santa list. These you have to pay for, as they are completely redesigned/improved over the old add-ons, for the newer sims.

You can't go wrong with Expansion Packs 1-5, and Add-Ons Packs 1-4 are free for download for users of G4 and G4.5.

It all boils-down to exemplary customer service on KE/GPs marketing and technical staff.

Correct, and there is nothing wrong with that either.

We would all be missing the additional planes, objects, airfields, and interim enhancements otherwise.

I'm looking forward to Expansion pack Six.
