Upgrade Installation - Remove Prior Versions 1st?

The instructions that came with my G5 UPGRADE disk did not specify if I must uninstall G4.5 BEFORE installing G5 or do I install G5 on top of the prior version so that it can verify that I have the version that qualified me for an upgrade.

Do I uninstall first or not?

It's your choice. If you wish to still use G4.5 for any reason, such as joining a G4.5 multiplayer session, don't uninstall it. If you won't be using 4.5 any longer, then uninstall it. G5 does not overwrite.

If you have the add-ons and expansion packs for G4, there are some advantages for NOT uninstalling G4 first.

I just installed G5, and then ran it. Initially, I was shocked and depressed when I saw ALL my custom planes and airports were no longer there! :eek:

Then I checked and found G4.5 was still installed and I could start it and all my goodies are still in there. Whew!!

Now the question is, can the custom files in 4.5 be imported into G5 some way? I looked and tried, and found folders but they appear to be empty when you want to import something from them into G5.

Just batch import all your EA files in one step. Hopefully you've saved the original downloads from the swaps. Then download all the CS and AV files at the same time. As far as the EP and AO discs, those files can be directly copied from the G4 to the G5 folder, as previously described by opjose.

Can you uninstall G4.5 after installing G5 without any issues?

I reinstalled my EPs and AOs with G5.

The 2 versions are completely independent of each other. Yes you can remove 4.5 without affecting 5.

It will not remove or delete anything from G4, but it does copy your planes over to G5 w/o problems.
