Is there a way to relocate the RealFlightGx folder that RF places in my profile folder? I dual boot between XP 32 and XP 64 and would like to stop having to copy this folder. Can I relocate this to some common alternate location or am I stuck copying folders?

Thanks!

There is no way to configure the location of RealFlight's data folder directory specifically. However, you could use the Microsoft PowerToy called TweakUI to configure each operating system to use the same folder on your filesystem for My Documents. This would mean that the My Documents/RealFlight G5 folder on each OS would also be one and the same and eliminate the need for a duplicate. I haven't actually verified that this works, as I don't do the dual boot thing anymore, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Yeah, I suppose you could do that but, I hate to start messing around with default folder locations in Windows. It seems like it should be something you could do through an environment variable to tell RF to point to a different location. e.g. Microsoft Virtual PC has a %MYVIRTUALMACHINES% environment variable that you can use to tell it to use an alternate directory to house VM's.

I suppose I could do a junction point and redirect to a different directory. That's low level and would allow me to have it function the same even if I eventually go to Win7. Sysinternals (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx) has a utility called Junction that makes creating them pretty easy so I may just do that.

I understand the purpose of putting it into the user profile, it would be nice to have some control over it's placement without having to go to creating junctions.

Thanks!

The powertoys redirection of the "My Documents" folder does work for dual boot machines and Realflight.

I don't think it would migrate well to Vista or Win7 though due to the different directory structures whereas you're able to use junction points in Win6 and Win7 both. So, while both of my installation are XP currently, if I upgrade in the future I don't want to undo the folder redirection to later implement junctions.

If the folder redirection works for Windows 6 or 7 I might consider it but, I don't think it does. I'd be happy to be wrong about that but since I'm waiting for the public beta of Windows 7 to end I don't have a reference point to work from yet.

Windows 7 pretty much does things the "Vista" way, if I recall correctly.

I was going to suggest that you relocate the XP folder to correspond to Vista/Windows7, to make things easier for you in the future.
