I have a Core 2 Duo running at 3.2 GHz with 4GB of RAM of which only 2GB is being used (not a 64 bit OS). Using Windows XP Pro with all updates....
My MB is a ABIT IP 35 Pro with a LGA 775 socket.
Can anyone tell me what video cards would work the best with G5? Figure under $125.00 at NEWEGG?
How much better would the newer video card be then my current EVGA 8600GT w/ 512mb DDR3 RAM?
Two examples:

Any comments???
Thank you,
Michael

I recently upgraded both my power supply and video card...What an amazing simulation G5 is with all of everything turned up to the screws and flowing without even a hiccup...Uhhhhh, unfortunately, I blew your budget juuuust a bit.
Goodluck with the upgrade, upgrades are always good.
It occurs to me I was no help at all.

Here's (http://www.techspot.com/review/223-gainward-geforce-gt-240-review/) a review on the 240. It's probabably better than what you currently have, although not earth-shatteringly better. In order to get great performance, griff is right; it takes a bigger budget. I believe you'll see some improvement, although not alot. It's a tough call.

My curent "old" video card is 2 years old! You would think there would be a big difference? Realflight G5 doesn't say you need such a good video card and my processor is more then enough.....they should be more specific and say that all the features have to be turned down to low quality or off!
thanks for your comments..

Top FPS killers:
Normal maps
Depth of field
Smoke
In addition, alter the texture quality, etc...
There is no list that will make everyone happy,
What works for me may or will not work for you,
for those with the horsepower to run all the eye candy, it's there if you want it.

But that's 14 "dog years" or 30+ in computer years.
The 8600 does OK, if you dial down some of the settings or leave things at their defaults detected by the program at the first run.
I run G4/G5 on an older machine with a GT8800 in it from time to time, and I get the best results when I overclock the video card.
