G5 with Windows 7

[Frustrated]

G4.5 worked reasonably well on my older dell laptop. We just bought Toshiba Satellite L555 (Windows 7) and the new RealFlight 5 runs slower than molasses. We had the computer 'optimized' at the store to clean off all the stuff running in the background but that didn't help. The computer store suggested the problem was the drivers for the Elite Controller. Do we need new drivers, and if so, where are they found!

Also, I need help with the Router UDP address. I have a Linksys WRT300N V1 and intructions on the thread on this discussion board don't look like my router, and I'm not sure what to do.

Why isn't this thing plug and play??

I'm running G5 on Win 7 64 bit on my new laptop with no issues.

It would not be a Interlink driver.

Could you do a system dump of your system to give a better view?

The are many different Toshiba Satellite L555 models.

Having the computer "optimized" really doesn't mean much.

Laptops tend to have lesser hardware ( especially in the 3D graphics department ) than Desktop units... this is a key point.

You have to be fairly careful on the hardware configuration of the laptop to get it to be capable of running 3D programs such as Realflight.

Most low to mid price laptops ( $400-800.00 ) TEND not to have the graphical "chops" needed.

On the upper end of that scale you START to see some 3D hardware that may be adecuate, but you have to shop VERY carefully to find it.

Above that price range you can often find laptops with the capabilities needed.

There ARE NO "INTERLINK" drivers, per-se.

The Interlink is a standard HID compliant device, meaning that it merely uses Window's own HID drivers which are part of the operating system.

Whomever suggested that this was the problem, was looking for a way to distance the equipment from the problem..... that you MAY have been sold an inadecuate machine.... but post the dump so we can see what you have.

Not to seem harsh: but if you did not specify that you wanted a machine with 3D graphics/Games capabilities, when you purchased it, then this is unfortunately your mistake.

Most people do not give a thought to that....


If you did specify this, but the laptop is not adecuate, then it is the seller's fault for not giving you what you asked for.

I have to agree with Opjose on this one... I have been using laptop for over 25 years now. You have to be very careful when buying laptops for graphic applications... they try to cut corners to make sales... key words are "gaming laptop" and don't expect to get it out of the bargain bin. Vast majority of people are buying laptops for internet access and that can be done cheaply.

Gaming is the most resource intensive use of a computer, bar none (OK maybe Nuc bomb modeling). You have to be looking a the graphics specs... everything else is secondary. On the desktop machines, at least you can upgrade the vid card, but that usually involves an upgraded power supply too. Many people post the machine specs here for an opinion before purchase. You could also try asking if you can run real flight on the demo machine before you purchase...

If it has not been too long, I would try to exchange it... but good luck on that one.

Thanks for the help.I have attached my system info as recommended. Our problem is twofold:

1. we can't get the interactive web based stuff working on G5. We have a Linksys router (WRT 300N V1) and a DSL modem (siemens speedstream 4100).

2. the realflight runs slow slow slow. We ran G4.5 on my old laptop that has less processor, less RAM, and no video card and it runs better, so something seems wrong with the way it's operating on the new lap top.

I see you have DX11, did you also install DX9c so that you get the missing components DX11 doesn't have? I know that that helped me most times for DX9 "games" as well as RF running in Vista / 7

Both G4.5 & G5 require that you forward certain ports on your router
before you can access "the interactive web based stuff"
