View Full Version : Aircraft sort/search/filter request. PLEASE!!!!

Why, oh why, don't they have a better aircraft filter/sort capability in RF6? I would like to be able to filter out things like "helicopters" or "gas" or "electric" as a check box. Maybe even "prop", "EDF", "jet", etc. Granted, someone might need to go through the aircraft and set some of those attributes, but it would be worth it for them to do it. And let me start typing something, like "corsair" or "540" in a box and show me all the aircraft that match as I type. This is seriously lacking, and has been for a LONG time.

I agree with your thought. I doubt it's reasonable to implement. They'd have to hire a guy who's job would be to assign keywords to uploaded files. Then you'd have to make sure contributors did the same, accurately. I just don't see it happening.

1) Start RealFlight.
2) Hold the CTRL key.
3) Press F.

Oh Adam, you make me so Hapee!
THANKYOU
It is not everything we wanted, but it is a start... I hope you guys will consider allowing a search of the aircraft description too. We also want ability to mark an aircraft as a favorite...
So you are also saying that we need to read the *.%$#@ manual if we want to know what changes were made in the new version???? :)
Thanks again

It Works! How cool
But I agree with the opening post - wouldn't it be nice to have an online database search tool. But for now, CTRL-F works just fine!

Personally, this is my favorite addition to RF6. While it may not be as big as a heli physics engine revamp or as entertaining as a grappling hook, it's still my favorite. It's a huge time and effort-saver if you want to load e.g. the Axe 400 but you can't remember that the full name is "Heli-Max Axe 400 3D EP RTF". Phew!

I admit, I was VERY disappointed when I first opened the airplane selection form on RF6... I have used the search gadget a couple of times today already... I like it. There are just so many planes to choose from. Having this tool helps a lot.... and I like that Jeff did not know about it.

Actually, I do recall it being a new feature to RF6, but I haven't used it. Therfore, I forgot it was there. You can go back to the early discussion on RF6. I know it was mentioned.

That post pretty much says it all. I like the grouping feature to get helis separated from the planks, but as that thread indicates... it is sometimes very hard to find the aircraft you want even when you knew the name.
Now it is better... I am sure glad they listened with one ear... now we will go for both ears. Now matter what, it is better than what we had.
It would be nice if each plane's author could select from a list of features; for example; retracts, smoke, lights, high wing, mid wing, skies, tail dragger, electric, nitro, gas, 40 size, 60 size, 1/4 scale, 1/3 scale,ww1, ww2, jet, tilt-rotor.... so you see my list of characteristics possible could be quite long.... and multiple characteristics could be selected... then you could really narrow your search. I am sure we could get the planes categorized if we had the structure to do it.
BUT IT IS A GREAT START AND THEY DO LISTEN.

I don't see that happening. Cooperation from uploaders, that is. What you suggest would apply to AV files as well as EAs. Our CG Eagle 2 model is in the swaps twice. Once as an EA, once as an AV. The EA has the electric motor showing. The AV shows the nitro motor. It looks like 2 different complete airplanes, but it's not. If you want a nitro Eagle 2, your suggestion would point you to an AV, not an EA.
Similarly, if someone wanted to take any electric bird or nitro, and make it the other, they'd tag it, as you suggest. That would lead to a bunch of erroneous and exaggerated tags. Post a POS plane you put a turbine in, and classify it a jet. Field day for the kiddies!!! I see some problems, nooner.

Well since there could be problems, let's stand around and do nothing...
I am of the other school... do something and accept the flaws as being better than doing nothing.
There are so many characteristics available to the designer, it would be nice to tell the user what has been done without them having to DL each plane. For the designers who fail to prepare a detailed description... I usually do not give the plane a chance. Documentation...Documentation... It is not my job to DL, install and try each controller switch to see what the designer did with the canvas.

Funny how the designer goes to all the work of creating a model and does not put up a nice description and explain all the features. Oh well... That would sure help in making any sort of searching work.
Some day... but I sure like having a great start for searching. Was that V-22, v22 or Osprey?

I don't build models because I want people to download them. That's not what drives me. I enjoy the build. Why not post them when I'm done? They'd just sit on my hard drive doing nothing.

A description is nice
but few ever read them ! ....
Just go to some of the EA files jeff has uploaded under my name and look at some of the comments
Theres people out there who think I'm the cat pajamas when it comes to 3D modeling
even if its stated in big red letters that in fact jeff did the 3d modeling
On our last upload I got 2 PMs about dds errors from persons who DL'd the file
but failed to use the common workaround............... that jeff had explained in the description !!

Hmm, that's going to be a tough one to get. KE did a real smart thing getting the active modelers upgraded to RF6.
So, you're going to have to take matters into your own hands if no one else steps up.
Take Inky's Sbach here:

Then apply the physics from the Variant you wanted.
Easy as that! :D
