View Full Version : Do the Model Swap aircraft work with G2?

G@ came yesterday, did a fresh RF install, then put G2 in, the Deluxe aircraft and scenery and Add On disks 1 & 2. What a program!

But, some Model Swap aircraft seem to work and some don't. For example:

As the program boots I get an error message during Initializing Tables saying the XCEL SE failed to register because it's based on the Sun Dog.bse, which I don't have.

Trying to select the Torque Roller CAP gets me a message saying the collision file can't be created because my disk is full or I don't have admin rights.

Are the Model Swap planes and helis intended to work with G2 Scott?

Oh, and BTW, download the CAP 232 large and install it. Tell me if that's not a hoot!

No replies on this one? Did anybody else download and install the CAP 232 Large into G2 and/or am I the only one who thinks the way it flies is a hoot? Or maybe my system is the only one that does Wrong-Way Corrigan with this aircraft?? I hate to spoil the surprise with more detail so somebody say something!

I emailed Scott about this and his reply was as follows (if I'm understanding your question correctly. :-)

"The answer is that is works with all your old aircraft, except any that were based off the free Cap or the free Corsair. Any other edited model parameters will work. The Cap 232 is
now included in the standard version of G2."

Hope that helps,
Phil

OK, I don't want to contradict Scott but that's not what I found. My experiences with Model Swap planes and helis is that some work with G2, some don't register and some register but don't actually work when you select them. But that's not really important - there are plenty of good aircraft in G2, especially if you have the add-on disks, and I'm sure more will be along.

I didn't want to ruin the surprise but on my system, when I downloaded and installed the Cap 232 Large from Model Swap, it comes up when I select it and sits there on the runway - BACKWARDS and tail high. It taxis, takes off and does everything I ask it to do....all tail-first. It even lands that way. I don't know about you guys but I've had aircraft that would tail slide, tumble and even knifeedge spin but I've never had one that would perform sustained backwards flight. MultiPlayer aerobatic competition anyone??

Seriously, does it work this way on anyone else's system?

My Capp large is invisble (:

Thanks for the reply.

Hmmm. Interesting. My CAP 232 Torque Roller is invisible (I can only see the exhaust), but the CAP 232 Large flies backwards as I indicated. Kind of fun.

If anybody wants to see it I made a 2 min. clip of it doing flybys, spins, a four point roll and landing, all tail-first of course. Post here or email me direct with your email address for the .rec file (it's about 500K).

My Corsair, Piper Cub, do not register. Some trouble with the CAP also.

But hey!! I have 50+ planes that do fly and about 11 or 12 heli's. It is -40 degrees here in Indiana, so I am not going to complain one bit.

Too cold to put skis on my rc planes and go outside.

Hi ChefJeff,

My Cap 232 from Model Swap runs and flies backwards also. Just wanted you to know that your problem is not a isolated case.

I tried flying it last night after reading your post. I am going to wait and see if Scott or KE finds a solution to this problem. We might have to delete the Cap 232 from Model Swap, or they might find a way to fix it.

We need to give KnifeEdge time to sort these minor problems out.

Hey Simple,

Thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy nor the only one who's CAP flies tail first. OK, maybe it doesn't prove I'm not crazy but....

I'm not complaining and I don't want this "problem" fixed. I wasn't kidding in my earlier posts, I really think it's fun to fly and actually quite a good performer. Besides, anybody can do it the regular way but bassackwards takes real concentration.

Have a healty and happy holiday season everyone!

ChefJeff,

I asked my wife last night if she has ever seen anyone fly backwards like I was on the G2. She could not believe it. I told her it takes a lot of practice.

Another club member who is taking lessons came over and wanted to see if he could fly the plane backwards. I told him that was something that expert rc pilots can do and to just practice his Takeoffs and Landings for now. And maybe in 5 or 6 years when he got better I would show him how to fly backwards with a real rc plane.

If he remembers that I can do that and wants me to show him how in 5 or 6 years, I will tell him that I am getting old and my eyesight is not as good as it used to be.

I'm having the same problems with the CAP232-torque roller and all the other free planes that came with upgrade 1.1.
