View Full Version : Troubles since the upgrade to .256

I upgraded last night, and jumped right in. Did some multiplayer which worked well after we sorted it out.
However now I see I have lost the ability for the clear canopies. I either get opaque, or invisible canopies or windows, this includes the stock color schemes. I just want to know if others have this problem or if I need to uninstall/reinstall the whole thing again?
Another thing is there a readme to see a list of things fixed in the update?
Thanks
Eric

Fixed it.
For some reason, all of a sudden it wouldnt show the canopies. I checked the graphics settings and I had the texture detail maxed, when I backed it off some, it worked fine. Of course after I reinstalled it all ...again. :rolleyes
This is on a Voodoo3

I upgraded to 2.00.256, but now the music in RF G2 is choppy, and the sim occasionally experiences fatal errors, locking up entirely (never did THIS before). Looks like I'm going back to the previous version.

Oh, and yes, I have submitted a Bug Report

OK, now I'm having even MORE problems with 2.00.256. In the viewport menu, I no longer have the option of binocular view, and the option of turning the various items off and on (trees, etc.) has been removed from the viewport menu and the Airport menu. Haven't even tried modifying anything else (aircraft, radio, etc.) 'cuz I'm afraid of what I might find.
On the positive side, the disc swapping problem appears to be gone

Well after the clean reinstall it seems to be stable for me, I don't have the music on, so I can't say if that was affected.
All in all it seems to be better after the patch, so far. I had a problem with a crash to desk top when I tried to edit radio which seems to be gone now. And I havent had to swap one disk yet! I'm sure there is plenty more for another patch yet to address.

OK, I've confirmed my inability to use the binocular view in viewport and still hav eno way of changing which objects are shown in each Airport, so it's back to version 2.00.230 for me.
Hello, Kinfe Edge support? Thanks for taking care of the disc swapping issue, but I want my binocular view, etc., back!

Phew. Went back and un-installed everything, then re-installed (in this order): Real Flight Deluxe; Add-on's 1 & 2; RF G2 upgrade disc, then the online upgrade to 2.00.256.
All seems OK for now. Kind of a pain in the behind to have to go through all this, but hey, that's technology! ;)

After I completely uninstalled and reinstalled everything, and I thought I had fixed my problems, it would appear I'm still having problems with 2.00.256: Twice in the past half hour, while in the middle of flying, G2 hung up in a most unusual way. Both times, the background music continued, but everything else froze, and both times I had to hard reboot to recover.
Seems 2.00.256 is still more than a little "buggy"? :(

Select "update to specific version", you will see a list of what are fixed in that patch.

dmwierz ,
try checking for a sound card update from your sound manufacture, it could possiably be a change in the sound system, and will most likely be corrected by a sound driver update, or reinstall of the existing driver.

The best thing to do to see if it was intoduced with the latest patch is to downgrade to the previous one and see if it still happens.
I think the problem with your viewport not having binocular view and such is that you did not have the sub viewport "active" before going to the viewport menu. If the main view is "active", then binocular view is not an option. The viewport menu operates only on the active viewport.
Simply click on the sub viewport and notice a green border appears around it to make it active.
For the sound stuff, like Evan said, try new sound card drivers, and also try turning on Use Software Mixing in the music page. When it studders like that it is usually a sound card driver problem, or other conflicts in your hardware or software. Also, if you have installed a 3rd party MP3 player in your system, the codec for that may be buggy.
I dont think that problem is going to be caused by RealFlight. Not trying to pass the buck here (Check out the release notes for a list our bonafide bugs we fixed), but trying to help.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I have an onboard sound card, and Compaq has been horribly slow in upgrading their drivers. The most recent one is over 6 months old. I can go on ESS' Web site and find more recent drivers, but Compaq explicity told me not to use these since they handle the chip instructions in a different manner than the stand alone sound chips.
Next time, I build my own computer.
BTW, would bad sound card drivers cause the program to hang up? This has ended up being the most annoying of all the items exeperienced since upgrading to 2.00.256.

I just D/L the Update to .256, and wanted to see what changed. Looked for the Release Notes in the following areas: No Joy!
Readme 1.2.rtf
Readme1.2.rtf
Readme.doc
RFlight.doc
Where is the Update "Bonifide Fix" Info listed?
Thanks,
Jeff

Sorry Jeff, the only way to see the release notes is to use the online updates "Update to Specific Version" feature. We are going to make the release notes easier to find in a later release.

Dennis, if your computer caught fire and burned to a crisp, I would probably suspect the onboard sound card chip. :) We have had more problems with those things than you can imagine. Driver support is horrible, as you found out. Most people with problems end up disabling that thing and putting a real sound card in. Its too bad because they sell alot of them because they are cheap, but then you get what you pay for.

Dennis, yes bad sound drivers can cause the program to hang up like you are describging. One thing that you may want to try.
Click on Options
Music/sound
There you will find all of the sound options.
Uncheck all of the check boxes, as well as move all of the sliders to the "never" side.
Fly now and see what happens.

Yep, I know that I probably need to upgrade my sound card. Too bad these OEM's never seem to get it right. I upgraded my video card one month after getting the computer last year.
I'll try the tricks mentioned. BTW, the sound problems have gone away, but the program still occasionally hangs up, requiring a hard reboot.
Thanks for the great support. Not every day a software company actually LISTENS to the complaints on their Web site discussion board.
Good work! :)

after you update to new up date you can not position your viewpoint the menu is grayed out. If you take it off and just run the first update you have know problems. I hope this is fixed because there are some things on the new update that would be nice to have. Still G2 is A great Sim. Hard too justify the price ontill I bought it. I'm more then happy with it and would tell any one interested in RC to buy it I have been flying for 30 years now, and hope to fly another 30.
