will the g3 controller , work for my G2 software if i leave it installed on my computer?

No, the G3 controller (InterLink Plus) is not compatible with G2. However, your G2 InterLink will function as an additional controller in MultiMode (split screen) in G3, provided you already have a new InterLink Plus plugged in.

What about the old game port controller? Will it work in the split screen mode too?

No, G3 only recognizes the InterLink controllers.

Will the G3 software recognize and work with the G2 Interlink? If so, my 6/2004 purchase of G2 should only require a CD :)

G3 requires an Interlink Plus be installed. Without an Interlink Plus, G3 will not start.
