I get the error message "error creating effect GrassBillboards" when starting G3. I have a GeForce 440 and it looks like many others are having the same problem. My computer exceeds all of your published system specs.

Do you have a solution for this error yet?

Thanks

I get the same error "error creating effect GrassBillboards"

Here is my setup:

1. ATI All In Wonder Radeon 32 meg AGP video card
2. 512 megs DDR 3200 memory
3. Athalon 2100 CPU
4. Soyo Dragon Motherboard

Already did the Beta upgrade with no luck. Have latest video drivers installed and latest DirectX 9c installed.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm looking at the box it came in and it looks like fun....but I cannot even try it out since it wont load on my computer. :(

Thanks!

Hmmmm....I'm getting the feeling that we are going to be told to buy a new video card. Correct?

It is likely that both of you have graphics card issues. A list of tested graphics cards is available here (http://12.156.2.54/forums/showthread.php?t=9216)

jcurtis3,

I know that we have successfully tested on the MX440 card, but, to my knowledge, we haven't tested on any laptops or on the MX440 Go. Your drivers are a few months old, so you might want to try and install the latest drivers from Nvidia (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93).

RC 4 Fun,

You didn't specify which All-In Wonder card you have. Could you post the output from the Launcher's Technical support dialog?

Hi Travis,

My "other card" is an ATI All In Wonder AGP 32 megs DDR memory. I bought a new ATI 9200 128 DDR AGP card and now Gee3 is working so far. The error I was getting is as the other persons eactly:

I get the error message "error creating effect GrassBillboards" when starting G3.

Thanks for your reply and concern. Much appreciated! :)

I installed G3 on my laptop this weekend which has a GeForce4 420 GO and I had some graphics issues until I went to the Toshiba (my laptop brand) website and downloaded the latest drivers for my card. That cleared everything up and I was able to run with no problems.

That could be an easy solution to a lot of your problems.

Joe Teibel,

I have the exact same video card as you. What kind of frame rate are you seeing and how much deatil can you eek out without killing the performance? Also, what's your processor speed? I have a P4 Centrino 1.4 GHz with 512 ram.

Ya know, I didn't look at my frame rate so it must of been up over 30 fps because I didn't notice it lagging at all. I have a P4 2.7 g processor and 512 ram. I had shadows on low, texture quality on highest, and over-all graphics on high (these are all under Simulation > Settings > Graphics). I believe I had trees turned off also. Using these settings the sim ran great.

Joe Teibel,

Thanks for the performance info. It sounds like I should be OK with what I have for now. I'll be getting a performance desktop replacement in the Spring. For now though, I'm looking forward to be able to at least use it on my laptop. I assume that your video card is functioning OK with direct X 9. Did you use the version from the RF disk or did you update from Microsoft?

Remember not to post your serial numbers! We don't want somebody else trying to register using your serial numbers, because that will just cause a hassle for you down the road.

I guess I'm starting to look forward to the install now. My comfort level has risen with the successful results on the latest laptop installs. My wife is holding the program hostage until Christmas. I guess I'll have to be happy finishing up the Horse-Fly build for now. We're still getting some good flying weather here in eastern Virginia.

Paul.....I think you'll like it. I know here in the Pacific Northwest flying time is not happening so indoors entertainment like flying in Gee3 in my opinion.....is an excellent way to keep skills tuned and have a ton of fun while doing so.

You sure you can't sneak that software and controller into a closet and get an early start before Christmas? Just tell your wife....something came over you! :)

RC 4 Fun,

I almost can't stand the wait. I'm sure I'll like it. I just watched the video posted on the Q&A thread on RC Groups (Simulators). It's a video of some 3D flying that was taken of the computer screen. Pretty impressive if you haven't seen it. I'm itching to practice some low level inverted myself. Too dangerous to try with my real planes.

Hello there, I have an ATI Rage 32MB 128 Ultra and I have been unable to start RFG3. Still getting the message "Error creating effect GrassBillboards" I already upgrade to .329 but the problem persist.

Is there any chance to solve this issue without buying a new video card?

Thank's and best regards,

Nicolás.

Nicolas.....I also had an ATI video card before buying Gee3. Mine was an ATI AGP 32meg DDR All In Wonder card but even with the updates I could not get the program to load....same errors as your getting. :(

I went to Office Depot and bought a ATI 128 AGP 9200 DDR card for $99.00 with a $15.00 rebate. Once I installed it...."PRESTO".....Gee3 runs.....and is running good. I ran it in full screen mode for the first time last night and it really looks clean. I have not owned any previous versions of Gee products so am still tweaking it to my needs / taste. There are other higher end video cards you may want to look at.....if you can afford it. I think my frame rates with the card I bought are around 30 fps with the updated ATI drivers. I haven't looked at trying other drivers yet....maybe down the road when I have more time to try that out.

Man....Paul...too bad we don't live close to each other. I'd say your welcome to start with mine until Mama Claus lets you play with your's. :)

With the types of "FUN" (reads crashes) I'm having with Gee3....my real planes would be toast by now.

I'm having some problems with starting G3, I am (of course) getting the 'error creating effect' grassbillboards like everyone else, but on top of that I am getting 4 more additional 'error creating effect' .... . Everything that I'm reading so far is leading me to thinking that I may need a new graphics card. Right now I have a 32 MB ATi Mobility RADEON 7500.

If anybody has any sort of advice for me, please let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance.

G3 will not run with the Radeon 7500. Not compatible with DirectX 9.
