I have RealFlight G3 Installed and am running a ASUS V9980 Ultra Video Adapter (NVIDIA 5950 ULTRA) with the latest refereence drivers 69.63

G3 always starts in 1600 x 1200 16 Bit mode. If I cahnge the resolution to 1024 x 768 32 Bit Mode and then swith to full screeen then I am able to run the program howver I am getting dismal frame rates between 15 and 25 using the NextStar airplane and the default airport. If I remove almost ALL of the objects from the airport I can get the frame rate to 30-40.

Once I stop G3 and restart the resolution is once againg set to 1600 x 1200

I have reloaded G3 four times in an attempt to resolve this and other problems.

G3 always starts in 1600 x 1200 16 Bit mode.
You have pointed this out on several occasions, both here on other forums. As mentioned here (http://12.156.2.54/forums/showthread.php?t=9238), we are aware of the issue.

If I change the resolution to 1024 x 768 32 Bit Mode and then swith to full screeen then I am able to run the program however I am getting dismal frame rates between 15 and 25 using the NextStar airplane and the default airport.
As expected, you should be getting much better frame rates than that.

I am running a Ti4200 [64Mb] on a 1.7Ghz cpu with 256Mb of system memory. With shadow quality set to Medium and the other settings on Highest, I get 20fps. Turning off clouds gets 30fps. Turning off clouds and terrain detail will get 50fps. This is all with the NexSTAR idling on the ground at the default Realflight Ranch airport.

The latest driver version is 66.93, but I suspect 69.63 is just a typo.

I have reloaded G3 four times in an attempt to resolve this and other problems.
Other problems? Other than the unexplained clicking problem (http://12.156.2.54/forums/showthread.php?t=9341)?

You are correct 66.93 is the correct driver that I have loaded.

Yes the reverting back to 1600 x 1200 when full screen mode is selected is what I am talking about.

Is there a way to change the default resolution that G3 starts in? I can always tell when G3 will start with 1600 x 1200 because the second screen that is displayed while G3 is loading switches to a different resolution.

Thanks for the reply and have a Merry Christmas !!

Robert,

For one reason or another, we fail to use the persisted full screen resolution setting. So for the time being it will keep defaulting to 1600x1200 on your machine. This should be fixed in an update.

If you happen to run your standard windows desktop resolution at 1024x768x32, then you should get the resolution you want if you ran in windowed mode.

I look forward to the next G3 release in 2005 .....

I have been running in Windowed Mode at 1024 x 768 32 bit for the last couple of hours.

I have been playing with the Graphic Settings in G3 and have determined that with Shadow ON the Frame Rate takes a big hit.

G3 Version: 3.00.366
Airport Selected: Fun Fly Modified (Removed all people and hay bales)
Airplane: NextStar Modified (Set Smoke to 0)
Video Adapter: ASUS V9980 Ultra 256MB (NVIDIA 5950 Ultra)
Processor: Pentium IV 3.2GHz 512K Cache
Memory: 1GB DDR
Operating System: Windows XP-SP2 Professional

Shadow Option ON:

Frame Rate On Runway: 27.5 FPS
Frame Rate in Air: ~ 67.2 FPS Average

Shadow Option OFF:
Frame Rate On Runway: 193 FPS
Frame Rate in Air: ~ 298 to 311 FPS Average

Should I see this big of a jump with Shadow OFF ? With Shadow off the simulation appears to be smoother.

Have a Merry Christmas !!!!

Robert,

Should I see this big of a jump with Shadow OFF?That is an awful big difference. It sounds like shadows are set to Highest quality.

Check the shadow quality setting in the Graphics area of the Simulation Settings dialog. Setting this to Medium or Low will greatly improve the shadow performance.

Airplane: NextStar Modified (Set Smoke to 0)You can achieve the same thing for all aircraft by disabling Particle Effects on the View | Show menu.
