Not having shadows of a hieght reference makes using G3 rather difficult at times. I have them enabled in the settings and my system exceeds the recommended platform. Are shadows "not available yet" or is there something else?

System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1024MB RAM
DX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440
MFR: NVIDIA
Version: 6.14.0010.6693 (English)

And yes, I have the latest drivers, even updated them today.

I believe you should be able to see shadows. You may need to update to .327 or later, as I believe the 440MX cards are GeForce 2 based. That update fixed some problems with GF2 cards.

I had already updated to the latest version of G3 using the launcher app.

Kerry,

I will check with our graphics guy about this. Unfortunately, he is out of the office until after new years.

I had already updated to the latest version of G3 using the launcher app.

Not to upstage Vitek, but to update to the latest beta version, I believe you need to take special steps. See this post for details:

Hope this helps. I think the fixes are also in the heli update, you can find that on the main realflight webpage.

Good luck.

The .329 update should require no special steps. Only beta updates require the beta unlock procedure mentioned in that post. The .329 update is no longer a beta update.

I've posted twice under Got Shadows?..and also awaiting the return of the graphics person I guess...have downloaded the .329 update and no change, everything else working fine including helis. Also have GForce4 MX with latest updates to it and to nVidia sound.

I hope to hear soon

Cheers, Steve

I'm new to RC flying and this forum. I got here because I wanted to know if G3 would operate properly with my GeForce4 MX video card in a Dell system (meets optimum requirements except for video card). I didn't know if it was a 3D card so I plugged the model into Google. It brought up some sites that did technical evauations of the various Nvidia cards. As stated by many of them, the MX model does not have the onboard hardware for shadows or the pixel configuration for compatibility with DirectX 9 (or any DirectX version).

I don't know what effect these missing items have on G3 operation. For that matter on the G2 version also, as it required Direct X 8.

If the hardware is missing on the card to accomplish the items mentioned, I question - WHAT IS A PATCH GOING TO ACCOMPLISH ??

Sorry guys, I forgot to check back with this post... As mentioned above by redjet, the Geforce4MX cards don't support pixel/vertex shaders. The card will work with G3, but you can expect to not see any shadows.

Okay, it has been written that the GeForce MX4 cards wont support particles and shadows.

I assume that must mean in G3 only, because I have G2 and the shadows work fine.

If I go buy a video card in the morning, what is recommended to make sure my shadows work in G3?
Thanks

I assume that must mean in G3 only, because I have G2 and the
shadows work fine.Yes. G3 uses shaders to do shadows. The shadows in G3 are completely different than the ones in G2.

If I go buy a video card in the morning, what is recommended to make sure my shadows work in G3Get a card that fully supports the DirectX 9 feature set. Specifically pixel/vertex shaders. The true GeForce4 cards [not the MX ones, they are GeForce2] or the FX line from nVidia, or an ATi 9600 or better.

Thanks for the help.
I just put another 256k of ram for a total of about 789 or so, and added the 128 Ati Radeon card.
Now I have shadows...
It flies fine and graphics are great, but my controller feels "soft". Not enough elevator at times.
Maybe not precision enough gimbals, I guess. Didnt notice it with G2.

Wish I could try that transmitter with it.

I have tried to fly the heli with my Hitec eclipse 7 but cant find out how to make the throttle go up yet., so have to stick to the controller that came in the box.

Maybe not precision enough gimbals, I guess. Didnt notice it with G2.Try calibrating your controller. The gimbals are the same as the G2 interlinks.

Wish I could try that transmitter with it.If you still have it, and it is a USB interlink, you can use it. You only need the G3 controller to be plugged in. You don't have to use it. You can select the controller from the Controller menu item.

I have tried to fly the heli with my Hitec eclipse 7 but cant find out how to make the throttle go up yet., so have to stick to the controller that came in the box.You need to create a copy of the aircraft and change the radio type for the aircraft to Pass Through.
