Kwik Fli III
This is the 3-view I'll be using, as previously discussed. Fly Electric, can you please post the specs, and reference pictures of your desired features, especially for the colorscheme? I'll do retracts for you. Is that main gear only? I'll build it as a 60" wingspan, per the plans, unless you want otherwise.

That is similar to the Kaos and Taurus. Most older pattern planes do look a lot alike.
Good airfoil shot.

A 60 size should make it haul. Fun subject.

Yup ...nice one Jeff.
Be watching for this one. I like the 60's - 80's pattern birds.Currently in the middle of a Midwest Pattern Master build. Bout the same size as this, 60" span. |

Jeff,
Thanks for taking this one on! Still the best reference article I know of: http://time.fh-augsburg.de/~erd/Mode...ad/KwikFli.pdf The attached pic is the same from the earlier part of this thread, so referring to that: - Same orange CS with blue trim. According to that article, little is known about the bottom and colors, so I would say use the same color and trim pattern on the bottom. - Obsolete, but historically accurate, 72Mhz antenna - Trike gear, retracts on all three wheels. Original likely did NOT have gear doors. - Flaps: None. Originally, I was thinking they would be useful and previously referred to a Mk IV picture showing them on the inner wing half, but let's keep this as a Mk III. As you've mentioned elsewhere, flaps can be added to the physics, even if not visible. A Mk IV could be another project. Someone may even take on modeling the entire Fli family.. - Outrunner brushless electric. Hadn't thought ahead about some of the nose details, but I would say make it fully enclosed & flush behind the spinner. WS: 60" The desire is for the model to faithfully represent Phil's real plane as best as possible, so 60" is what it should be. AUFW: between 4 and 7 lbs?? Anyone with experience with the Mk III, please comment. Note: You will have the original files so future modifications could be: 1. Glow version requiring cutout and engine addition. 2. Electric with smaller diameter spinner for cooling air, or scoops 3. Tail dragger version I'd also like to volunteer to help with the physics. In addition, I plan to follow the great advice we've all heard before and I've read the major remind us of: baby steps. Specifically, I want to use this plane to gain CS experience, as there are some other variations out there. One can sit on the sidelines or get in the game! That may not be all you're looking for, and if so let me know. Thanks again Jeff |

Found two more links from the article that may be useful:

That antenna will be neat! (But currently being done by another modeler). If it had doors on the retracts, I doubt I'd do it. I like to say I'm more interested in RC than real planes, but both are fun. I still don't have a desire to do retracts where doors are involved.

Now, now boys, play nice!
![]() Well, then lack of doors is in your favor! Just to ask, why are the LG doors such a challenge? Antenna: yes, I think it was Andy who has added in his latest model. |

I'm sure I could do them. Gear doors and retracts require properties assigned in Max called NUP values. I've discussed with others that I really wish KE would compile a comprehensive list of all available NUP values and what they do, along with reserved part names and why. What KE has in their KEMax area is a good start, but it's not everything. I know that much of the information is scattered about the forums, if you know where to look, but I'd like to see everything in one place.

I think you are over complicating the issue / process. It's no more difficult of a task than any other portion of creating a model. Once you do it and realize it, you'll be open to whole new variety of models you could create! Here is a page you should look at: http://http://www.knifeedge.com/foru...ad.php?t=17132 That is the thread I studied when I was first trying to figure out gear doors and NUP values. |

I think an antenna should be included on every model from the era that used AM or 72Mhz (FM )radios....it just looks more realistic

I agree with the major-- whether in sim or in real life model, it just looks right...
