Sweet! Now all they need to have is the ability for us to create/model multiple drop objects that are selectable to a plane so that users can pick which object to let loose each time they takeoff....water-balloon, bag of floor, eggs.

Is there a way to control what the drop object characteristics are; for example, does everything respond to the wind and impact with the ground in the same manor?

I handled learning the process much in the same way but didn't end up with such good results as you on my first model. I didn't attempt _s or _n maps until my 3rd model either. Its good to have another modeler in the forum.
Dropable objects must have a ~CS prefix as phrank mentioned they must also have a collision mesh to interact properly with the ground. These objects can have wings added in the editor to make it respond better to wind. You can have multiple visual models if you use the engine to show feature. This will mean the objects will need to be named ~CS_4STROKE, ~CS_2STROKE, and ~CS_ELECTRIC since those are the engine to show options. The end user can also select nothing for the engine to show.

Need read up on the "engine to show" feature in RF.

So is this the way to create one? (using ~CS_4STROKE as example)
- Model 3d object where you want it, include coll mask.
- Label it "~CS_4STROKE" in 3dsmax and export the KEX
- Assign it as a droppable object in the Aircraft Editor
- Assign it to a servo
- Select it and drop away

Are the ~CS_4STROKE, ~CS_2STROKE and ~CS_ELECTRIC the only options we have so that would allow for a total of 4 since "None" would account for one of them?

Thanks!

You have everything well understood. Yes 4 is the total of choices but 3 is the maximum number of objects to use.

what is the best base model to use when importing into RF5? The default is an Orville Flyer which does not lend to a good set up?

If you are importing a swap file, you are importing the wrong thing. DO NOT import a kex file from the swaps. Import the rfx or g3x file.

Flex, don't confuse him. He's not creating a model. He's using the wrong process to import an existing model.

Importing the zip file worked perfect. On first attempt(s), I had unzipped the swap files and imported the KEX file, since it was the first option listed, which gave a rather bizarre hopping/bouncing in place on the field at idle throttle (I kid you not) aircraft.

No biggie, but not completely obvious to a newbie on a/c imports.

Thanks for the advise!

Well, if nubes would look into the proper method to import aircraft, rather than making guesses and assumptions, I'd have a different avatar!! The directions are all over the forums.

If it were so obvious, then there would not be all the how to posts...sorry for picking the first choice on the menu...geez. The fact that there are "directions all over the forums" vs. being a bit more intuitive speaks for itself...

I guess I will have to go explain the high school students we are using this with to draw into the local AMA chapter that they are a bunch of noobs and should learn the proper method to import aircraft they are excited about.

Not trying to pick a fight, but thanks for the warm welcome to the hobby...

If IE did not rename the .rfx to .zip, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Welcome to the forums.
