Macchi C. 202 Folgore

This is the Italian built and flown WWII fighter the Macchi C.202. Folgore (Lightning)
I'm building this model by request for Ubird. It's a lesser known yet impressive fighter. Lots of room for details on this bird.

If you can do an F4U-1, You can do an MC.202.
as far as being lesser known, it's actually one of if not the most famous Italian fighter(s) of WWII.

Probably most Italian fighters were well known in Italy. You don't hear the name kicked around much where I'm from. Good to hear you have heard about it though. Go Brields!

I like the request! True it isn't a Mustang, Corsair, P-47, Zero, Me 109, Bf 109, etc. I would agree it is a fairly well known aircraft. I have also seen some very nice scale rc models of it as well. With that aside, I can't wait to watch another model take shape.

Thanks Dane.
I guess I'm just new to the WWII warbird Genre. Oh well live and learn.

Smile Macchi C. 202 Folgore

A plane with lots of skin detail, lots of stencils, and a hard color scheme to duplicate, it will test the great Boof's magic and talents. However, there is no doubt that this will be another outstanding model and his BEST to date. As usual I will provide all the research I can dig up to help with your endeavor and provide what help I can. Hey, you know me. Many thanks Scott, for taking on this project. Many thanks.

It's nice to see lesser known aircraft being modeled. I would love to see a Russian I-16 in realflight. Any takers?

I don't know what that is. You may want to post your request in the proper thread. http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27848 Don't forget to post 3-views and reference pictures.

I was at a bit of a stale mate with the aft section of the canopy on this one. While it's still not right it looks far better than before. I haven't put much time in on this one. I've been on a self imposed break with modeling that was supposed to last until I got back from Toledo, but With nothing else to do tonight I gave it another go. Here are some shots.

Looking like a one man submarine! That rear turtledeck does look tricky, it's looking good already.

Moving along with even more fuselage details. I added what I think is the turbo charger intake,12 port inline exhausts, nose gun ports, antenna, cockpit roughed in, more canopy and turtle deck tweaking. This one has some tricky areas but I'm getting there.

Looks great. Those details must be eating your polys alive.

They are. Just the fuse accounts for 2943 polys. Luckily most of the details are on the fuse itself.

The vertical has some shading errors that I'm having a hard time sorting out right now. The wings have to be joined to the fuse before I can model in the rear intake.
It's looking more like an airplane instead of a submarine now.
