I added a note to the announcement thread about potential issues during the download. It's worth a look. We'd like to hear how many people, if any, have those kinds of problems.

I have experienced multiple errors when starting the download of the update. It seems to be happening over and over again each time I retry.

Update- the download has seemed to stabilize now that has been running for 30 minutes now with no issues. I'll update this post as necessary.

Update - it's been going for over a hour now. The download speed is very slow averaging 35 kilobytes per second.

I had quite a few download errors too but it wasn't that bad I just answered the box and it kept going to the end and said it was successful. Then when I started RF-X the patch was installed okay, so a number of gotchas during the download but it did remember where it was every time and finished the download perfectly.

Now on to what I think about the update.

Wow this is very nice I love it. I started at the Lighthouse field and flew all over the island, I think.. it's very large so I doubt I flew over all of it. But all I can say is, fantastic I love it. I really like to just get up in the air and go exploring and to me you guys really hit the nail on the head. SO THANKS GUYS GREAT JOB.

As for frame rate I still have my GTX 1070 set at 1680x1050 and the frame rate was very high, 100 to 120 most of the time. I did enable shader caching and waited for that and did have a short pause a few times flying around, but I didn't notice any stutter or judder. I'll look closer at that stuff later but right now I'm just exploring to see what all you guys did with this update. But so far it's super to me.

I just finished doing some more flying on Wright Island and all the different areas are really cool. I definitely like the fact the elevation of the landscape changes drastically as you fly around so there's some very high places that fall off quickly so you can glide down to the area below. I did try turning my GTX 1070 up to 1920x1200 this time and although the frame rate stayed hi 70s to 100 it definitely wasn't as smooth as it was at 1680x1050 so I turned it back down. I'm very sensitive to fps changes and smoothness so your mileage may vary on that part. I started to get the GTX 1080 and I've been kicking myself ever since I didn't. But I plan to upgrade when NVIDIA releases the Volta Cards due some time early this year (At least I read that) which will definitely give me the performance I want in RF-X. So I wish I could run it at 1920x1200 but 1680x1050 will do for now. I definitely love what they did with this update it's right where I thought RF-X should be. So guys keep going and I hope you can add even more before the final release. Again... Good Job!

Mine eventually got through the download (about 5hrs), then had an error, 'out of memory'. RFX would start and then fail. I have re-installed from the original disk and started again.

System
I7-6700k
16Gb
1080ti
500Gb SSD (150free)

If you're using a non English Language version of RF-X and are having trouble with the update it would probably help the KE guys if you would mention the language you're using and also your system specs. I'm a retired software engineer and that type of information is always needed to look into what's causing problems.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

NigelR and Nivlek, the "Out of memory" error you report is unexpected. We'll look into it.

In the meantime, here's something you can try to get around it:
  1. Uninstall RF-X, but leave your serial numbers, user content, and update cache intact. See the attached screenshot of the uninstall dialog.
  2. Reinstall from your disk.
  3. Re-register the software to get access to updates.
  4. Restart your computer and close any 32-bit programs that use a lot of memory as possible. 32-bit programs are marked in the Task Manager.
See attached shot of my task list, where Chrome is a 32-bit program using over a gig of memory. That should be closed for extra safety.
  5. Update to 1.50.004.

Using these steps, you won't end up re-downloading the update files, which should save you time if it works.

If not, let us know. We can try some additional steps.

NOTE: Clearing out 32-bit programs should only matter for the update. You won't need to worry about this when actually running RF-X, since it is a 64-bit application.

This morning I did a FRAPS benchmark of Wright Island and charted it so you can see what the frame rate was during the whole flight. I flew over Wright Island for 11.7 minutes and then landed. I used the output from the FRAPS benchmark to create a chart of the entire 11.7 minute flight. There's nothing like hard numbers to show what's going on and I like the results I got very much. They are at 1680x1050 but that looks very good and gives very high frame rates so the flying is butter smooth. I also have the shader caching enabled which I'm sure helps a lot. I can't say enough about how cool the layout of Wright Island is, there are tons of stuff to see and flyover.. it's Great! A big thanks to all the KE guys. Here's the chart so you can see the flight. All of my system information and the RF-X settings are at the bottom of the chart. I also included the basic information FRAPS gives you with MIN, MAX, and AVG frame rates. I may do another one at 1920x1200 which is my monitor's native resolution.
