Another project (F18)

I decided to go ahead and begin working on another model to import into the sim when ready. And seeing as there isn't a current one, I figured why not an F18. So here's what it looks like so far: F18 wireframe

I just hope I can keep it below the 11,000 polygon limit by the time I have gear and everything on 'er.

BTW, when's the "Your own creations" forum section gonna show up?

F18

Man, that is gorgeous! I guess you know that you are going to be bombarded with requests! I can see that I am going to have to get started learning Gmax. LOL, just another iron in the fire that I don't have time to learn. I'll have to see what I can give up so I can spend the time to start working on the Gmax tutorial.

Keep up the great work and let's hope that KE really will get us a Gmax filter in the near future.

Thanks guys.

Breakstuff, foamys don't have turbines. I need speed. lol jk
But honestly I think I'd rather work on stunt planes/jets. More fun to build/paint/fly.
A nice commercial jet would be nice though. Or maybe a C5 Galaxy. Something along those lines. But we'd need a new quad turbine sound profile. hehe
I know that two of them running simultaniously sound sweet enough, I can only imagine 4.

Progneto, yea, requests are expected for sure. Can't go without those. lol
I already have 2 other jets in the works besides the Hornet though, a Yellow Aircraft Stingray, and another which I can't go into details about just yet. So it'll be a while before I can get to requests.

Hello Smoke,
If you would to figure again on what will b your next jet project beside those you have decided. May I suggest Bae Hawk or Goshawk. Well, some ppl are disappointed when flying RC Hawk models in the field, because it has nasty bad habit when flaps are deployed on wrong speed. Hopefully, with Hawk in sim someday, this can reduce the no. Hawk falling....

AsiaSRC, sorry I didn't respond sooner. But it looks like you're getting the Hawk taken care of, so it's all good. hehe

I hate to bring posts back from the dead, but rather than create a new one, I figured I'd post updates here. Tho I haven't had much time to work on it, there have been quite a few changes.

Also, I'm having some slight trouble animating the main gear. Nasty twist on 'em. Plus considering it's the first time I've animated anything other than a camera, it's a bugger.
But here's the gear animation as an MOV file: F-18 Landing Gear (3MB)

Getting pretty darned close to the poly limit too. It's 10,735 with the droptanks, and just 10 polygons more with the bombs. So depending on how much further I want to go, I may have to do a drop. It'll at least need a seat and tail hook, but that shouldn't be much.

Smoke,

Great work on the F18 so far, keep it going and I will like to b your test pilot!

Yes, Nemo-uk is doing a nice, No..it is very nice Hawk indeed. I think a lot of Hawk fans will rush in to Get3 soon. Of course with so many other like Rick's 747 and SR71..Wow, COOL!

I believe many jet jocks stomach is far to b full yet! based on the amt of kero burn in our turbine!
Please,,please consider a F-5 if you have the time, especially the swiss team color scheme.

Best Regards
Albert

Ooh, nice! Thanks a ton for those. Looks like I'm pretty close to 'em, but I'll redo them anyway to match.

And about the F5, we'll see. I've always liked those as well, so I may do one.

Smoke just so you know I started moddeling an F5 last week (see progress pic) but it is an early model (1st gen). If you do one you should consider the newer model F5, looks basically the same, it has some changes to the wings and stuff so we don't end up w/2 F5's that are the same

Oh and your gear animition video is awesome!

Well I've got prints for the A/B/C/D/E/F models, so we should be alright.
Looking good btw!

And thanks. But I've completely remade the nose gear and will redo the mains tomorrow, so I'll have to animate them all over again. lol
