Yeah and that's what it does too. I pushed the circle out and then removed the verts at the end to square it off, and that's where a wing segment was. I like the squared off look too, the first one with only a circle didn't look right. It was okay but this is better. Some of the real planes had a three sided look with no circle segment to break up the squared off part. This seems better than that for a model.

that it does , say not sure if you mentioned a simple cockpit or not , that would look good too , so much for the simple stick model . 8)

Yeah that's the plan but that won't go in until the end. I guess a simple hole where the cockpit would be and a windshield is all I'll do. At one point I thought about putting in a machine gun but probably not, it's not WW I vintage so it would look out of place.

BOOF69 has a pilot in the parts repository that would fit this model.

I've been working on a rounded fuselage for Big Red and I finally have something that sorta works. The fuselage isn't perfect but good enough to let me finish the overall look of the plane then I'll go back and clean it up. I was going to post a render but decided to put a link to a short video I made of me flying it. The video's done to Kenny Logins Playing With The Boys so at least you can close your eyes and enjoy the song.

I've been working on fixing the fuselage shading issue and abandoned the oval look and created a new round fuselage. I created the oval look when the engine was going to be exposed so the fuselage would outline the engine and be a bit different than normal. But once I decided to put a cowl on the engine is mostly hidden so the oval look didn't work, so I created the new fuselage out of a cylinder and it seems to be working much better. I just added a windshield so I thought I'd post an update. There's still a lot of work to do but it's getting better I think.

Thought I'd drop by and post a picture of where Big Red is today. Some notable changes, a new cowl design inspired by a picture Doug sent me for reference in cutting out the cockpit area. But I liked the look of the plane so much I borrowed it's cowl design for Big Red. I also reworked the Windscreen using a technique Fly_electric shared with me. Now I need to add the cockpit cutout and then it's mapping time for two planes, Sporty 78 and Big Red. Wow my favorite part just got better.

Thought I'd post a short update. I created the cut-out for the cockpit this morning and added a short turtle deck, just enough to fill out the fuselage behind the cockpit. Here's a couple of renders so you can see what Big Red looks like now. Not much else to do before I start mapping I have a few things I want to play with but I'm not sure they'll go anywhere until I try them out.
