Stutter/Jerk in RealFlight6

Many times on takeoff of an airplane or moving fast across the screen I will
experience a Stutter/Jerk in the screen. It only seems to happen the first takeoff
or go around then clears up (I assume once it is fully loaded into memory).

I am assuming it is from loading more airport data from the HD???

I was experiencing it on my old PC and just built a new PC:
Intel 3.4 GHZ i5 (quad core), 32 GB Ram, Solid State Drive, GTX 550 Ti Video.

The New PC should be plenty fast enough, but I'm still seeing it.
I get frame rates of nearly 800 and it does not matter if I have RF6
set to V-Sync (dropping the frame rates to 60) it is still there.

Any suggestions on how to fix it or it a limitation of the software?

Turning ON V-sync slows down the screen refresh rate to let the CPU do more things in the background including pulling data from the SSD/HDD drive.

Turning on V-sync can cause some tearing effects particularly with photofields.

That said, your machine still has to pull everything into RAM initially... and many Win7 background processes love to slow things down.

Things to try

- Load up Gamebooster 3 and configure it to disable everything it finds before loading up RF6. ( Yes I know you have plenty of RAM but this does help a lot. )

- Turn off Depth of Field and Bloom

- Toggle your write-cache state for the SSD in the device manager

- Run G6 as an administrator and see if things improve.

- Use a dedicated sound card

- Toggle V-Sync and see if you get an improvement

- Turn OFF indexing of all of your drives.

- Unless you are running Gamebooster, Win7 can do things in the background for up to 30+ minutes after a boot which affects most 3D and game programs... oh how I hate that indexer!


You're not going to get rid of this completely no matter what you do. But you can lessen it to the point that the pause is almost unnoticible.

You'll find that you'll get slight pausing as audio is loaded on most newer systems that no longer have dedicated sound cards. Once the sound and data files are in RAM the pausing stops.

If you are flying a 3D airfield, move your view 360 degrees or fly the plane complete around your viewpoint once before getting down to business.

I used to have to fly around several times and purposely crash into the ground a few times and taxi over all the different surfaces on the ground before I started any serious flying in G4.5. We finally got fed up with it and put a little heat on KE to fix it. They were able to do an amazing job to clean it up in short order once it became an issue. I am also seeing a few of the old issues slowly creep back in as the software is updated. Not horrible at this point, but still noticeable if you are looking for them.

I have a hitch in the backround image at about one second intervals that I was blaming on RF. Turns out all of my video on this machine has the same hitch. It's maddening but I no longer blame RF for it.

Thank you for the info.

What I typically do if to take off and circle around that seems to fix it for
all subsequent runs. I'll have to try the tips here and see if it gets better.

One thing I forgot to mention and should be at the top of my list.

With better video cards ( yours included ) you ALWAYS want to run RF in FULL SCREEN MODE.

This is the only mode in which v-sync actually works.

You'll notice much smoother performance this way as the GPU no longer has to contend with other desktop contents while it is in full screen mode.
