Yak 55m

One of the new forum members, Smitty43, was looking for a Yak 55m with a 93 in. wingspan like the one he fly's, so I told him I'd see if I could modify one of my older original designs that was inspired by the Yak to give him what he's looking for. I've always liked the Yak so I think it'll be fun to create the Yak 55m for him. The older plane I'm talking about of mine is the Yankee and I'm using the final version of it to create the Yak 55m. I haven't done much yet but it's a start. He has a DLE-61 in his but mentioned a couple of engines he wouldn't mind being in the plane, and one of them was a 70cc. So since I've already modeled and mapped a Desert Aircraft DA 70 Twin that's what I'm going to use in it, that will save me a lot of work. Here's a couple of renders of where I'm starting.

A bit more progress to report. I finished the template and added it to 3ds Max so now I can start modifying the plane. I added a 'see through' property to all the plane parts and you can see the current plane overlaid on the side view. Question. How much is a 93 inch wingspan Yak 55m with a Desert Aircraft DA-70 twin suppose to weigh, that would be AUW (all up weight). Or just the plane, either way just let me know.

Yes I saw his post about it in the main thread where Smitty43 ask about the Yak but I decided I'd like to model it anyway, and mine will be RF-X ready too. I don't know if the one in the expansion pack has a collision mesh. Besides I just like the Yak and wanted to create my own. Back when I created the Yankee I wasn't into modeling real planes I just wanted to create my own, but now days I kind of like modeling the real ones too.

Thanks. Here's some nice shots, not the same size but the same CS I think.

Thumbs up go for it

I was going to point out there is a Yak 55 in EP7. But it is really low res, like <8000 triangles low resolution.

Thanks for the encouragement. I guess I need to install that pack I haven't installed any of them since I reinstalled windows and switched to RF-8. But it would certainly be a good reference.

Then again I could use this color scheme. Probably leave the Pilot off the tail.

I've been working on reshaping the fuselage, canopy, and vstab today, here's a render for you. It does look a bit more like a Yak now.

Thanks guys.

Here's an updated render showing what I did tonight. I finished the HStab and I think the wings are finished too. There's a bunch of different ways I've seen the wing and this is one of them. Squared off ends but not flat. This won't be a perfect Yak 55m but it'll be pretty nice. I'm just using what I had to get him the right look and the correct size he wanted. Oh.. I still need to add the correct gear, the rounded off ones but that gear is what was on the plane.
