Truly excellent. I think these models are better than the official G3 planes ! Keep up the great work.

I think you mean the flaps.

Adjust the knob to move them.

F-14 Tomcat GREAT WORK

Hey Inky00,

Great flying plane, very impressed with ground handling. Nose wheel functions excellent and turns plane quickly.

What is the secret? There are some other nose wheel planes that could use some improvement.

Thanks for the good work.

Taking off

Hi guys, this is my first post here.

Inky, thankyou very much indeed for the effort you have put into this great aircraft, it is very kind of you to share it with us all for free. Much gratitude to you.

Regarding the takeoff for the heavy version I found if you hold the F14 on the brakes until it reaches full throttle (spooling up takes a few seconds on a turbine) it will accellerate quickly down the runway after releasing the brakes at full rpm. As it accellerates down the runway dont touch the elevator until it reaches the end of the runway, then give it a strong dab of full up elevator. It should lift off. If you simply hold the elevator expecting it to rotate it will never happen as the tailerons create too much drag and act like a giant airbrake thereby slowing the aircraft to below takeoff speed. If you use your navaids gadget it will help you to see the engine rpm and takeoff speed.

I hope this helps you.

PS I thought the F14 had full span flapperons and not separate flaps/ailerons.

Regards,

Re: The heavy version and taking off.

I could take off from Joes Airport. Nice long runway. I found that setting the rates on high, flaps down, spoilers up, holding brake till full spool up and then release. It takes off pretty easy that. I eventually tried all methods and even on low rates can take off but it takes a very long time.

On the Sod Farm, it would not take off no matter what.

Here is a clip from Joes Airport:

Any willing to make a GIANT scale with lotsa speed & deeeeeep
thrust sounding turbines. Size like the largest globemaster variant; 30ft wingspan I think.

Hi Guys, sorry for the late reply... For traking off the heavy version do the following.

1- Apply full flaps using the knob
2- Apply full brakes, pushing the elevator all the way foward.
3- Be sure the 3 pos switch is in the middle, and apply full power.
4- Release brakes.
5- Let it run for a while about 3/4 of the runway (Sod Farm)
6- Apply about half up elevator and it will lift off.

It needs about 100 meters of runway to lift off, so the Sod Farm is very limited. If you are flying there start the takeoff run at the very beginning of the runway.

Moving the three pos switch to the number one position makes both ailerons pull up. It is used as an airbrake.

I will try to edit it a bit more to get it to lift of easier.

Hope this helps...

Ok here is a new version of the F-14 Heavy. I changed the airfoils on the main wing, this makes the jet more easy for takeoff. It know takeoffs in the Sod Farm, no problems. It will even takeoff over grass with flaps.
I also increased the flap for easier takeoff.

Let me know how it works...

OMG! I can harrier the heavy variant all day long with the spoilers up! At a 45 degree angle of attack or more, and it looks like a Cobra looking for an easy meal! Try it!

Needs 1/2 or more throttle, with more in the turns! On the deck! With landing gear down, if you hit terra-firma at the right angle and airspeed, the thing disappears beneath the grass! LOL!

This is with the first "heavy" variant, with full flaps...the second heavy variant, doesn't harrier as well! Rename them variant 1 and 2!
