Error Creating Effect

Hey all, I just purchased and installed (without a hitch), G3. When I try to run the software I get this message:
"Error creating effect ShadowReceiveDirectionalGrass"
I have ran all the DirectX tests, and updated G3 to the latest version. My video card has the latest drivers. The video card is a s3 Graphics ProSavageDDR (I think that's my video card anyway) I did not receive any errors during installation and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, but no go.
By the way? What's up with the error reporting? Is is really sending? Not sure...
Any advise to help me get "in the air" would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Craig

Oops!

After registering and posting my previous, I finally found another thread concerning the same issues...sounds like my graphics card is not sufficient, but wouldn't the DirectX tests shown this? Or does that have anything to do with it? You will have to pardon my pc ignorance. I can operate them just fine, but I am not familiar with video cards etc...

The S3 ProSavage is an unsupported graphics card. If you search on the card name you'll probably turn up a list of the other guys who tried it and got the same results.

XP installs DX9.

This does not mean that your card is necessarily compliant with the DX9 specifications, all it means is that you have the DX9 drivers in place.

Compounding this problem is a sometimes overt attempt by the video card manufacturers to obfuscate the whole DX9 compatibility issue.

Case in point, those awful Integrated Graphics Processors (IGP's) utilizing shared memory.

Re:

According to this list http://www.knifeedge.com/rfvc_compatibility.php the Prosavage line is not supported. Would have been nice to know this beforehand, a URL to the above address or a list of supported devices on the box would be handy! Now this software is going to cost me twice as much to get running. $400.00 would buy a darn nice plane! I could've been out flying and getting a sunburn instead of in here getting a headache and a thinner wallet! Lesson learned...

Bear in mind that the DX9 requirement is plainly documented on the box, albeit not often understood.

Re:

I realize that my own ignorance of video cards and DirectX has got me into this situation...however, like you said...not everyone understands this stuff. This is very frustrating to people like me who assume that because we have a fairly new pc, that it should have all the latest and greatest "stuff" on board. Had I known the whole story, I would have figured the cost of a new video card into the whole mess and re-evaluated. Now I have to buy a video card as the software is useless without it. ....And I thought amateur radio was an expensive hobby! Don't mind me, I'm just venting....thanks for the info...Looks like a good bunch of flyers here! In the meantime, I think I'll go out in the morning and crash something! Hopefully not my pc though.......
