Of course. You can use any write - program, like wordpad, notepad, or winword to edit the .sup - file as long as you leave the file extension as .sup. You can use any other graphic program to generate the texture tga - file, as long as the tga - file is not compressed.

Angry

Please delete your post in the tutorial, and if you've really read what I've wrote in software and preperations part, it would work perfectly as I can see it in your .doc - file !!!

Why don't you make one? You only have to follow the tutorial and learn how to design in gmax. That's all...

LOL, I could not resist to put in that comment .....You ONLY need to learn gmax etc.

Maxkop, I believe many people just do not have the slightest idea what it takes to "make" a new plane so it's not being lazy or being disrespective ....
Just my 2 cents.
I thought it was easier also until I really got into that ....

ARB

P.S. I did not go thru the second part of your tutorial yet but it's definitely coming.
You are doing an excellent job Max.

Ok, ok. It's really not easy to build a plane. Especially if you are a beginner in 3D - Modelling. The first models won't look so good as you probably want it and you will fight with a lot of problems to visualize your planes.

My BIG TIP!!!: Try to make simple models at the beginning and increase step by step the difficulty of the planes you wan't to build. Try to focus on the quality of the 3D - Model as well as the textures you are using. A foamy or a trainer is a perfect beginner model. Use high - resolution threeside - drawings to make the work easier for you and simply model as long as you want until you are happy with the result.

Thumbs up Tutorial SUCCESS

Wow Maxkop,
Program Downloads - Installs - configuation - Test Design - export - import G3.5 Successful!!

Walked through your initial Setup of all these tools.....Kudos........ installed all successfully - got through to Part 2.3: Testing setup and configuration: DE export settings; Generating a .KEX file and sucessfully created a .KEX file for the Realfight G3 (3.5) RC Simulator.
Moving to the foamy tutorial part 3.1 now.

I know this process and your blender testing is enough, but just wondering if you've heard or experienced anything regarding the 3ds MAX 9 compatibility with KEXMax...
Really want to design aircraft for G3.5..
In the mean time, I'll use the GMax process!!!
Thanks again for this thread and you tutorials - Simages

I have the entire process down now. It's not as difficult and tedious as it sounds, especially after you've done it a few times.

My only problem is that parts that I mirrored in Gmax are no longer mirrored after the import into G3.5. the plane looks fine in the DE preview and the names and hierarchy are correct but I end up with 2 left wings and 2 left H-stabs graphically in the simulator.

Is there a way around this or do I need to create each part individually?

Let's see what the readme of the kex - exporter says about this problem:

3. Known Issues
----------------------------------------------------------------------

* Many software packages export 3ds model files. Unfortunately such
software does not always support object heirarchies.

The result is that models created with such software packages will
not have or will loose any pivot information on export. If you find
a tool that seems to work, please let us know.

* When exporting a model that has mirrored meshes, the children of
the mirrored mesh will appear mirrored again.

We are currently working on a solution for this problem.

So normaly one should not receive errors with mirrored objects. But from my experience with all the convertation process I can say, that use of mirrored object is always a problem with gmax and 3dsmax.

I recommend not to use directly mirrored objects under gmax. For example, if you want to mirror one wing side, first press Shift + Move the object to a complete new one.

Make clear that you create a Copy of the object.

Align this new object via pivots under gmax that it fits directly the parent object.

Than go to Tools and select Mirroring (No Clone)...

This process normally generates good results with the .kex - exporter.
