Hovering

First off let me start by saying that I have trained on G3 from day 1 of my flying career. I trained on G3 for about six months and learned how to land almost all of the planes.

My first real-life flight was solo and I landed perfectly. Since then I have collected about 5 planes and have had a great time flying them, never once having instruction other than time on the sim. And never once crashing one, (knocks on wood).

So now I’ve been practicing Hovering on the sim for quite some time and im at the point where I can hover the Yak 3D, E3D, & the Edge 540 in expansion 3 for as long as I want, wherever I want.

I’m currently building a Mojo 60 profile as my first 3d plane. But im wandering what to expect when i take to the skys? Will it be a similar experience to my first landing? Nailing it right away?

I'd like some input on how realistic you think the planes I have listed are compared to real world hovering. And what settings I might tweak to make them more realistic.

Well, Script, my "career" in R/C flying nearly parallels yours, with the exception that I never set my simulated winds at 10-12 mph, so the one bird I've crashed (and lost) thusfar is due to NO experience with 3D in high winds. Otherwise, I think the sim trains one's thumbs pretty darned well.
Notwithstanding that, If I were you, I'd enter that first real-world hover at least 3 mistakes high, like any other first-time maneuver that takes thought and experience for low-to-earth execution. Just one man's opinion.
If you nail it a couple of times at 3-high, bring 'er down to 2-high and workout there awhile, and finally, after it's second nature to you, bring her down into the zone of no return IF ...
Good luck in R/W hover.

I'd highly suggest upping the winds in G3 and angling them to the runway to simulate real world conditions.

Fly this way with G3 long enough and you'll SCOFF at high winds!

Thanks to G3, when the winds are high I RUN to the field to fly my sticks.
