Terry, follow the instructions given in this post for reporting problems to Knife Edge.
http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21793 On the opening screen, there is a tab you can select that will lead you to a report of your computer's operating system. Make the text file of that report just as the post shows you how to do it, and then you will probably get more exact help ! Good luck! Jim |

I got those same two error messages when trying to run G4.5 on my Dell laptop with an "integrated video card". G4.0 runs fine, just load it from the Launcher. Knife Edge is working on a solution

Integrated graphics card support has been dropped in G4.5.

Is it true that integrated graphics will no longer be supported for KE simulators? I think that is a mistake. There are a LOT of computers, not only laptops, but desktops as well that are being sold with motherboard-based graphic chipsets. There should always be some way of turning off the advanced graphics requirements so that future editions of the simulator can at least be run on a machine with less than super high capability 3D graphics.
I started out with G4 on a computer with an integrated graphics package, and although I was not really able to run 3D water scenes well, I still gained a HUGE amount of knowledge and ability to fly RC airplanes with the simulator. I mostly confined myself to photofields and the simplest 3D fields, with the graphics parameters cut way back, but the point is that I was ABLE to fly the airplanes, and quite well, thank you very much! I even found ways to make G4.5 run on the integrated chipset, but must say that putting even a very basic NVidea GPU card in the machine helped a LOT. But as I said at the onset, there are going to be LOTS of laptop users that are not going to be able to upgrade their computers, and it would be a significant loss both financially and in the area of public opinion to not make it possible to scale back the requirements so these future editions of RealFlight can perform adequately. Don't forget, RealFlight is a darn good R/C teaching tool first and foremost, and it is not necessary to have "mind-blowing" graphics capabilities in order to do what it was originally designed for. I have a laptop that is affected by the hardware requirement increase, and frankly I don't want to loose the ability to run G4.5 in all of it's "glory" simply because I want my substandard laptop to also run it. Most people purchase laptops WITHOUT regard to running 3D software, and unfortunately that is their mistake. Often when I'm asked for laptop recommendations ( at least TWICE a day ) I start discussing the video card requirements and associated costs, and the typical reply is "well I don't need that because I don't play games". I TRY to do these people a favor by expending the time to explain how Vista is affected by the performance of the video adaptor, how future software will depend upon DX10 compliancy, how spending the extra bucks now will permit them to use their laptop for a longer period of time, how they will benefit in the interim, etc. etc. etc.... and they go out and forgo the advice... People want to spend as little as possible PERIOD. The manufacturers cater to this with the Integrated Displays. The same requirements that G4.x has, are pretty standard for most 3D game programs and for good performance under Vista. I don't want KE crippling my simulator experience to try to encompass the machine I may have purchased that is up to snuff. If YOU WANT an - FMS - type simulation experience on a laptop, well then just download FMS. This may sound myopic to those who are complaining about lack of Integrated Adaptor support, but it's not... KE was able to shoehorn in support for Intel 915 displays in a patch for G4.0 which was great! But they did not have such support in prior releases. That "patch" is biting them in the tail now, as the requirements have moved past these subperforming devices. Had they not put it out, there would be less of a clamour.

Hello,
I just purchased a copy of G4.5 and now realize it will not work on my laptop, as I have the Intel 945 chip. I reverted to G4 via online updates, but when I try to start the program I get error messages such as "'RFV4AUTO.DCK' was designed to work with RealFlight version 4.50.020 or higher.". I get error messages like this for every file in the "Data" folder. It doesn't seem as though a lot of others have had this problem going from G4.5 to G4. Am I missing something? Thanks for your time, Andrew |
