McFoamy Build thread
Here's the first problem I have, right out of the chute: The referenced website has a couple of pictures of the components that are straight down shots. Even if they weren't straight down, being a foamy, I don't think there'd be much loss in perspective, anyway. Look at the wings. The left wing is significantly shorter than the right wing. I've never owned a foamy before. Is what I'm seeing correct, or do my eyes deceive me? Are the wings really not the same length? What's going on here?

Jeff,
I think it is more likely that this is not enough of an overhead shot. Take a quick measure of the wing chord at each tip in the pic, the L tip is shorter than the R. Distorted by the angle, which is also what we are seeing in the differing lengths. The shape looks pretty straightforward, maybe there is a slightly better shot somewhere or maybe some other measurements to be had? |

I can just use half the pic and mirror the other wing. That's what I always do anyway. Nobody will ever know the shape isn't spot on if I don't tell them!!

Jeff, the picture is detorted. Remember that picks in wings are objects, which you can reshape.
If I were going to use that pick, I would rotate it untill both wing tips were level. Then I would add verts on the center line, loop cut the center. Then I would flip one half over on top of the other, putting both center lines in the same location. Put the top pick in wire frame. Next, I would move one wing tip in, and one wing tip out, untill they were close to being the same. Then select one vert at the top, front wing tip, and one vert at the bottom wing tip, then move at the Z axes untill both verts line up, one on top of the other. I would bepeat this at the back wing tip. The reason I would go to all this trouble, is to get the wing sweep the same. Once I had done that, I would delete one pick, and mirror the one that was left. Then uniform scale to size. You can crop picks in Wings, by adding verts, and deleteing.

I'll use that one, flex. I didn't think that there could be that much distortion of a surface that's next to flat, anyway. But it's obviously there. I was going to import all the pictures before I scaled any of them. Now I'll have to fudge the fuselage lenth, unless the OR can help me.

I you would like, I could cut the other parts out, and true them up.

One of these days, we're going to have to get some modelers to build a model 'hot potato' style. It'd be interesting to pass the model around, each person adding just a little something to it from the first primitive to the last detail of the 3D model.

I was looking for a good perspictive view of the MCFOAMIE, and there is one of mine in the background, hehe.
I will have the three views set up soon.
