ATTN Knifeedge: KEMax tool for 3DS Max 2012/2013

I got my quote back from Ideate (an Autodesk authorized/designated partner for the West Coast) for 3DS Max 2012 with subscription and so I will be able to upgrade to 2013 once it comes out this spring. I should have my copy of 3DS Max 2012 sometime within the next 6 weeks.

I would like to do what I can to help develop/test the KEMax toolkit for 3DS Max 2012 and 2013. Please let me know what I can do for support. I want to get my EA's completed as quickly as possible with my new software.

Ideate will also be my consultant for 3DS Max future support. I'll also be able to work with Autodesk tech support throughout my subscription. I don't think I would need to do this since the KEMax tool is developed by Knifeedge. But if needed I might be able to assist with tech support.

Funny you should mention this. Slightly different situation, but I'm searching for help on getting an updated script for blender 2.6.

Sorry to but in on your thread.

Lightbulb Converter Update?

11/12/2007 12:55
Was When the 3ds2kexbeta Converter last saw some attention.
Seems a lot of work re-writing the script for Blender2.6x when that is still Work in Progress and the converter would still be the weakest link.

3rd January 2008 KE's Blender2Realflight.zip was written & thats a "Curate's Egg " for a Tutorial.

I found out that I can't have both versions of 2012 and 2013 functioning on my machine at the same time.

Here is what I got back from my Agent:

Quote:
The subscription contracts are annual and cover upgrades, home use copy, extensions and web based support.

Subscription will get you next upgrade and upon the release of your next upgrade the previous serial number will be inactivated by Autodesk. It does not mean that the product will stop working on your computer but if you need to reinstall and reactivate, then you should use the most up to date version rather the previous version.

With this purchase you’ll be covered for 2013 release (expected March/April).
and

Quote:
"Yes to the previous version usage as subscription benefit – you can use up to 3 previous versions as a subscription member."
So I guess, once I move to 2013 in March/April I might not want to go back to 2012. I don't know how much of a pain it is to swap to previous versions, but I'll find out within a few months. I can at least guarantee I can help support/test the KEMax tool for 3DS Max 2012 within the next 2 to 3 months and then Max 2013 for a good year after that. Hopefully a tool will come out soon this year.

Granted, I couldn't begin to imagine what would be involved in this process. All I know is that when questions are asked, even at Blenders forums, 90% of my responses come back as just upgrade.

So my question to you boss, can I model in 2.6 and take that file successfully through the exporter? Just a basic model, no specials on it.

Thumbs up Blender 2.6 blend files open in 2.49b

Maxkops post here applies to Blender2.6x files as well(some modifiers might not be backwards compatible!,just apply them B4 opening in 2.49b).

Gotcha. It would be nice though if the free software was supported a little more around here.

Again, sorry for the intrusion in this thread. this will be my last post here.

Not to worry Matt. You can use Max's proprietary filetype (.FBX) It allows you to export for earlier versions. So you can do everything in 2013 export and open in 2011 or 2009 then export a kex from there.

I should have 3DS Max 2012 being delivered no later than March 16th.

Hopefully 2013 won't be out just yet, otherwise, it will most likely be Max 2013 I'll be getting as the initial base software and then I won't be able to test the KEMax toolkit for Max 2012. Of course this is only if KE is able to release new versions in the near future.
