C/G needs to be higher, so it will be less stable.

I had mine tip over, but not because of a hard turn. I drove slowly into that gray mossy stuff, it made a grinding noise and stopped the engine. Then the airboat started bouncing around like crazy and flipped over.

The bottom of the hull is all rusted out.

I had a feeling the lights on the airboat would work at night. In the Bayou sim I am unable to change the sun settings, they are grayed out. Is this on purpose? Or just because it is in beta?

Also, probably just my computer, but after taking all the above screen shots, I could no longer get any more when I tried. I would get a error box instead. So I did a screen capture of my desktop for the following pic.

I opened the airboat at the Carnival and yes, the lights work.

Mine tipped over within 2 minutes........without trying. At lake Douglas, this thing bounced all over the place.

Run the directX on your RF disc again and the screenshots should work again.

Its got a nice feel. Definitely has the southern feel. Maybe more rust. Kidding kidding. Looking forward to the tutorial on importing engine sounds. I may have to bring my laptop to some fly-ins to get sound samples of real radials. I'll play with my own electrics first to experiment. Still need the fix for scaled aircraft to break up into the same size pieces.

I doubt that they will explain the best way to record the sounds. The process is very simple. I explained it above.

I tried the Airboat, and to me it seems that it is "sticking" to the water to much and not getting on plane at speed. Airboats should slide around at speed and especially during turns and not turn like a Deep Vee boat. I have built several RC Airboats myself with kits from Dumas and Robinaire and have used real ones in the past down here in the Everglades as i have friends and family in Airboat clubs, and this one just doesn't seem right. A real RC Airboat has no trouble moving on grass, and up shallow hills. It's a great start though and some tweaking will make it better but it may be the limitation of the sim as far as the physics of the water to make it perfect.

Edit: With some more power, I find the Airboat handles more realistically. I have it with about 16lbs of thrust and it behaves like the airboats i have built in the past, it will spin around on itself in a sharp turn at lower speeds and flip over just like the real ones too! It also looks like it gets on plane as well in the water which aids in handling.

As a side note, did anyone notice the engine on the airboat is facing the wrong way? the props go BEHIND the engines on these things but overall its a great model.

There is a sort of tutorial already if you click on the "Import Motor Sound" button.

I kicked up the travel on the rudders from 30 to 45 and that made the airboat steer and spin around a lot better and more like my own r/c airboat.

csgill75, some of the RC airboats in my club have tractor setups.

We're glad you guys are enjoying the new airport and Airboat!

The Airboat behavior will not be perfect. The water physics were designed with float aircraft in mind, and they handle those well, whereas a flat-bottomed boat that skims the water's surface is quite a different creature! We did what we could within the framework of the current physics, and we think it's pretty good. It was just for fun. RealFlight is not a boat simulator, after all. But you may find that by tweaking the model in the editor you find values that you prefer. Luckily, you have that ability!

Want to have an air boat race? I posted this one in 2008, so many people probably haven't searched back that far.
