Random wind in RF?
In the real world, the wind speed and direction is different at the flying field every time, and that helps make better pilots by always having to adjust. In RF, the ability to control wind speed & direction are very valuable in practicing all aspects of flying, but the option for random conditions would be also be helpful. As a comparison, I remember FSX had something similar where the weather conditions of the sim (as least to some extent) could be imported from weather web sites.
Comments? On the weather note, a friend told me about the link below: http://www.windfinder.com/forecasts/...merica_akt.htm Very detailed info that could be useful for before heading to that next day at the field or contest. |

You can pretty much set up the winds any way you like in the sim, your talking about real time weather right?
In FSX that was a great feature, flying across the US with real time weather changes. It seems to me that it might be a costly feature to add here though and not a necessity.

Well, real time weather would be cool, but I agree the program performance could suffer from constant updates. I was thinking of random settings, with new values being used with a controller reset, changing of planes, or airport.
Ultimately, the wind speed and direction are program variables. The program should not care where they came from: user entry, web page, or random generator. It's easy for the brain to take the easier way out in settings (consciously or unconsciously), so a random generated source would be a little more "surprise me" like the real world. Having said that, it IS true the turbulence option does provide useful variance, but only in speed, not direction I think. Anyway it was just a thought-- not trying to get too deep!!! |

Don't get me wrong, I always enjoy new features

No offense but... I use rainy days to practice good flying on the sim ... I would hate for it to COMPLETELY bench me.

Random wind
I think conditions that randomly change would be a great addition as it would simulate typical conditions at some fields. Wind speed and direction that changed randomly would be good for a challenge, however, the option would have to be switchable for those who wanted control or more stable conditions (beginners).

I'm at the office, so can't check right now. Did this feature get removed in version 6, as RF has had variable wind conditions for as long as I can remember.

Don't know about the randomness though. Regards Michael

Thanks. Your comments are exactly what I was thinking but didn't fully describe: random as needed, off when not. Wilsonman: None taken. My schedule is such the sim is it for now, but fully respect that many of you can get to the field. |

In this case "Variable" and "Random" are synonymous.

In general, they are not. In this case, we wouldn't know unless we had inside knowledge of how "variable" was implemented in RF.

The variability that RF can produce does a good job of simulating any variability that you'll see in a given day.
