which one

I don't know why a person, who is not creating new material, would have any version of Max? Max is not newbie friendly, it is at best, complex and very difficult to learn, even with you're tutorials, as good as they are!
I use Wings 3D to create new material, then use Max to do only what can not be accomplished in wings. Wings is very user friendly for those who have not been to school to learn the ins and outs of MAX.
Having said this, I started in Wings 3D, it was very easy, and I be leave more folks will succeed and continue modeling, using Wings3D, than will using MAX.
I have tutorials for every thing done in wings, tutorials for what must be done in MAX, and tutorials for getting things into rf . I have tutorials for using Gimp to paint the TGA.

Talking Nubie Creater starts now

Learning to create new material for RF

The way this works, I post a tut in a folder. you and others will get the folder, put it in a new folder, named "Tuterials for RF". Make a second folder, named "My First RF Project, save every thing there. If you have an external hard drive, save there as well, so you don't loose you're work, from an accident.

edge v3, set up front, so don't have to holler!

Well, I`ve only done one EA for RF, never had I modeled EVER before. Knew absolutely nothing, nanda, zilch, no clue what so ever. I saw one Wings tute on You tube, and said, well hell I could to that, turns out, it (modeling )wasn`t that hard. I had to do the plane three times, the first two got lost deleted or something, due to my total lack of modeling / computer knowledge, anyway the third attempt worked, I was able to build / model "that" plane in wings, in one day, because of the experience I gained attempting the first two, Of coarse, I had to get into Max. eventually, which is the preferred program no doubt. and after watching tutes for the things (pivots, smoothing groups, etc. ) that Wings doesn`t provide. Max isn`t that difficult. BUT, it does take a lot of patience and practice. Like everything, once you know how to do it, it`s easy. In all, modeling the plane is the fun part, I`d say mapping is the most time consuming / tedious, it really doesn`t take that long (depending on the amount of parts of coarse) It`s just the least fun part.

What did you start with. ??? Practice Grasshopper practice. you might also want to learn about / look into the extrusion method. I built my plane using that method, it is essentially all one pc., started from one cube, nothing else. (except for the wheels).

I followed the tutorial, and saw a possibility and followed it. now I'm looking at something straight out of Peenemunde. I might start over to make it look more like a Foo Fighter. all in all it's gonna be a basic build, but a starting point.

It looks like this. How do I swing the camera toward the bottom so I can add some details, like Turrets?
