$25 rebate an insult to G2 owners

As a longtime supporter of Realflight software I am compelled to express my complete disgust for the upgrade path offered to previous purchasers such as myself. I have owned Realflight since the beginning and have upgraded all along the way to where I am now (Realflight USB Interlink + Controller). In fact I just upgraded to this version within the last year. The upgrades, while not being cheap have all been around $70-80 ish.

I patiently waited to see what the upgrade path was going to be after I first heard about G3. Now that I see it I'm just plain insulted. There is no upgrade path, what is offered is a paltry $25 rebate to purchase the G3 release. It should have been more like $100 or maybe $100 plus a trade in. If the marketing folks at Realflight thought this level of support was going to appease their current Realflight customers, they are way off base.

The $25 certificate would also apply if all I had was RealFlight Classic. This version is several years old now and by itself would not command that much on Ebay. As a recent purchaser of Realflight Generation 2 with Interlink Controller you would think I could qualify for a larger rebate. I don't even qualify for the $50 certificate because I purchased my copy a bit before the Sep 1,2004 cutoff date.

It's obvious to me now Realflight is more interested in the almight buck than in trying to do the right thing and to be fair. Why else would they fastrack G3 to market to take advantage of the Christmas season before the product was even complete. I can't believe you have to wait till the new year to get the Heli support. This should have been in the released product.

I can't see much in the G3 update that would warrant repurchasing the product again. It looks like my long relationship with Realflight has come to an end. Shame on you RealFlight.

It's worse than that

Actually, they fast-tracked G3 (secret) Beta to market. The market where you sell the dot-oh alpha release. This takes place after the beta testers who knew they were testers have tested it for a while. No matter what holiday was around the corner.

Et cetera...

But I should stop fuming and stop posting rants at my ex-vendor's forum. My business, after trying as hard as it could to stay at home, has traveled many miles across the water by way of Ohio. Now I can relax & stop watching my back for knives, baits, switches, and invisible trees and just fly & learn - then in a year or two upgrade at a price which I know for a fact will be well below full retail. So I don't have to worry about throwing my money away. That's how you build a brand. Bummer to squander near-total market share, mindshare, good will, distribution, and English-as-a-first-language advantage. Reminds me of Apple in 1989. But Apple survived. Hope RF does too.

But for now I'm off to Germany. I'll check back around G6 or so to see what's cooking back in the US of A.

Toodles!

2 years old, there are bigger and better things to worry about than something that took place so long ago!

Too lazy to spend the money? Or just too lazy to go out and WORK and make the money? I think for some of the people who complain about the price of this stuff it is that they are too lazy to work and earn a living they want everyone to give everything to them.
